Ethical Dilemma Regarding MTI

Pure and simple: It is against the law, it is taking money out of the pockets of the creators of these shows. This is how writers make a living. They are not paid anything while they are writing these works. When the works are successful and people all over the world start doing their shows, a certain percentage of the royalties go back to them. This teacher is dishonest and should be reported. It is stealing!

I'm with SeanMartin on this. The rules of this board specifically prohibit using any copyrighted imagery.

Um, Musical Director, if you read the thread you'll see that the original poster already reported the school to MTI.

Re: WICKED:

Report it!!!!! Are you crazy? I wouldn't think twice! Call MTI. They don't license WICKED yet, but I to believe that they have the rights. They would know who to contact. Don't let it go on.

I think you will all be pleased to know that the crime has been reported to MTI. Feeling proud for doing the right thing, but also a little bit guilty. I made it clear to them that I hope they do not give the school any rash punishments. After all, the show is just in the works. It has not been mounted yet. Thanks for your support.

Good for you! I know it wasn't an easy thing to do, but you should indeed "feel proud for doing the right thing."

Who are you anyway? Bobby Brady? Unless you are doing this to get back at someone, you have too much time on your hands. It's not the publics job to police people, the onus is on the copyright owner.

Morosco maybe you should delete your icon because it has the Chorus Line logo in it.

I am good friends with someone at MTI. I won't mention this thread to him, but he does read these boards occasionally. Actually, a few people in his office do, so you may not have to report it.

Fiyero did report it, but I certainly hope the poster with the WICKED friend does the same.

Yep, sorry...that's what happens when you post without reading the entire thread. Good to know.

I think you made the right choice in reporting it. I mean, you're not "burning bridges for her" by doing it -- she's burning her own bridges by doing something illegal enough times to get caught, and eventually reported. She took the risk, it's nobody's fault but her own. And honestly? Who cares if the students might have been disappointed? That's her problem, too. You had good reason to report it, and I'm glad you didn't opt not to simply on the grounds of "feeling bad."

Why is it a matter of "getting back at someone"? If that was fiyero's intent, it would've been reported years ago. Fiyero mentioned that this was an ongoing problem for 15 years. The teacher was making extreme changes to the show and didn't even have permission to perform the show, thus avoiding to pay royalties to those who rightfully own it. In a situation like this, it should be reported, and those taking action are doing the right thing.

You should also write to the Shuberts to ask if it is okay that you are using the morosco as your screen name. Better safe than sorry.

I actually called T.S. Eliot to see if I could keep munk, but for some reason he never answered his phone.
