Evan Hansen or Charlie?

Hello everyone!

My mom is going to be taking me too NYC to see a show in March for my birthday, and I was hoping to get opinions on whether Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (which I believe is open for previews by then) or Dear Evan Hansen would be the better choice?

I know Charlie isn't open yet and they are very different shows, so I was just hoping to gather some opinions for now! Thanks all. :^)

Dear Evan Hansen. No question. It is not to be missed.

While I normally would say DEH with no questions asked, it depends what your looking for. DEH is a brilliant and emotionally moving story. Charlie I would say is more of a fun and family friendly show with basic messages told throughout the story. The material isn't nearly as heavy or dark as DEH but from what I gather on this board and from family living in the UK, it's a slightly above average evening out at the theatre. So if you want a truly amazing and engaging evening, DEH is not to be missed

Dear Evan Hansen.

So I am a huge Christian Borle fan and he's actually the only reason I will be seeing Charlie, and also my 9 year old wants to see it. Unless you are a major CB fan I would see DEH. I just saw it, and I cannot stop raving about it. In fact I plan to go again since my daughter wants to see it as well. It is just so raw and honest and taps into so many ways we all feel as human beings. And especially if you have a chance to see it with Benjamin Platt-no question DEH.

Dear Evan Hansen is absolutely beautiful. I saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in London and it's dreadfully dull. They've supposedly made many changes for Broadway and there's a different director (though imo the direction was not the major problem in London), but I would still see Evan Hansen.
