Ever experience this?#1

Seen SHREK twice and enjoyed the musical numbers which I felt were lively and serviceable. Listening to the CD now I find I really don't care for the score at all outside the show. Usually due to a poor book, I've attended many shows I haven't enjoyed live yet have cherished the musical scores afterwards. For me SHREK is just the opposite. So my question is..."What musical scores have you enjoyed hearing in the theatre yet have no fondness for the original cast recording? The closest I can come up with is "Wicked" yet in that case I didn't care for the score PERIOD.

I don't like to listen to a lot of songs from The Music Man on their own at all, but I love the musical as a whole.

And well, I wouldn't say NO fondness, but there are few songs from Broadway version "The Lion King" that I like to listen to on their own, just because it's such a visual show. I loved seeing the show, but some of the numbers drag when I'm simply listening to them.

And in The Litte Mermaid, "Les Poissons" was my favorite number in the theatre, but my least favorite number on the disc.

I know exactly what you're saying about "Les Poissons". I can't listen to "One Step Closer" on its own either.

kchenofan's computer is broken right now. This is her fridge. Now, you can leave a message, but say it slowly, so I can write it on a post-it note and stick it to myself.

For me, the Doyle Sweeney Todd revival. Not because of the score itself, of course, but because the cast recording is so incredibly badly produced that I find it unlistenable.

The Color Purple, and to a lesser extent, Spelling Bee.

I agree to some extent with both little_sally and Not-Scott. There are songs from both that I love to listen to on their own, but I don't like the recordings as much as I thought I would.

I agree with the majority of Spamalot. To a much lesser extent: EVITA. It's just such a spectacle IMO once you see it live to hear it and see it...(if it's done well!). The dancing, the direction, etc.!

I like the score to Spelling Bee better if I see it rather than just listening to it on CD.

I agree with The Color Purple. And Xanadu. The cast recording is just a little too cooky to listen to on its own.

I agree with Xanadu. Other than a few songs, I just can't listen to it.

Yeah, for me, it truly has to be Billy Elliot. Loved it in the theater, but listening to it at home, it has almost a lackluster score.

I actually think the Spamalot recording is superior to the show.
