Ever had a broadway audition?

has anyone ever auditioned for RENT, Les Miz, or any show that has been or is currently on Broadway? How was it, was it fun, intimidating? Did you get casted? Talk about it here.

yup... crashed an EPA actually and got called back for Maureen. They are very nice and it's good fun. Victoria is a sweetheart.

I did an open call for Tracy in Hairspray. It was very exciting and I got to meet so many nice girls. The audition was the fastest and easiest one I have ever done in my life! I got in the there, sang my 16 bars of Baltimore and left! I won't know for like a year and half or so on call backs but the experience was great and I was so blessed that I was able to fly from Atlanta to NYC when my flight almost got cancelled because of the blizzard. God was smiling on me that day because the rest of the flights got cancelled.

I'm pretty sure she did. I think I auditioned for a movie at her new office a few months ago.

I auditioned for Hairspray in Oct 2003 and have been called back for Tracy four times, most recently in January about a week after they held the open call. Everyone at Bernie Telsey is so nice!

when you were called back in January did they ask for the girls who auditioned the week before to come back as well? They told us it would be a year or so on call backs.

I had several callbacks for a B'way show- sang/read for different people each time. Wasn't cast, but I was recently called in for it again- even though the show closed.

Theatre casting (B'way in particular) takes forever!

Add me to the ranks of girls who have gone in for Tracy in Hairspray. It was in January, a week or so after the open call. I went in, sang pretty much all of 'Good Morning Baltimore' and the guy - Craig? - was really nice. Then I read, and that was about it.

...but casting does take forever. This audition was over a year and a half after they originally called me to put myself on tape:)

There's always room for pathos - and jazz hands.

yeah I was a bit surprised to hear how long the process takes. Good luck with that call back though! I hope I hear one in a year and half or so too I guess lol.

how much training did all of you have before going for an audition that big? i'm curious

I'd had about 2 yrs acting training. I've been singing all my life. But I was also working with a great voice teacher and a voice coach who found me the PERFECT song. Training is important but so is being right for the part- that's something that's more luck than anything else.

Random? Probably not, if you have an agent or manager constantly bugging the CD's to get you back in there and seen
again after your first audititon, until your casted. They only take handfulls from those open calls, and the process takes forever. But I hear that its almost as hard to get an agent/manager as it is to get acting jobs in NY....

No, random as in, there are countless variables that are taken into account when someone is cast. You can be too tall, too short, too fat, too thin, not look right opposite someone who has already been cast, etc. etc. The list goes on and on. I've had situations where I've been to the "final" callbacks, then called to have a worksession with the director, then not cast (the last time it was because I was too young-looking).

You're right though- your agent will definitely help your chances of getting cast, since as actors it's not good form to call the CDs and bug them (don't want to get on the bad side of a CD).
