Yes a person I know on Bway has told me that the only way to make it in is with an agent. Of course there are times when that isn't true. But for good auditions, agents are very, very good to have.

hey, i hear that too. I hear that agents get you actual appointments..where you can sing more than just 16 bars and shake hands...its an actual meeting, a serious one. but i enjoy reading about everyones experiences..

Bwaybaby109- I'm not sure! There were about four other girls there when I was there but I don't know if they had tried out that week or not... my callback was the Thursday after the open call. But I auditioned initially in Oct 2003 and did a callback the same day, and didn't hear anything for a LONG time after that! So I wouldn't be worried.

im so jealous lol. i REALLY wanna go in for the open ave q call... i have the voice and look for princeton and rod... im just too young. in a couple years maybe... doubt theyd let a 17 yr old in....

when i was younger, I got called back for the role of "chip" in beauty and the beast...I almost got the part, but they gave it to a friend of mine.

A year later I almost got the role of gavroche in the touring cast of les mis. I lost yet again, to the same kid....im not bitter (grrrrr) haha

for the first National Tour I almost got the role of Chip in Beauty and the Beast but I was beaten out by this kid a year older than me cuz he had played Gavroche in Les Mis. It made me hate Les Mis for many years. I also got a call back for the Tour of Ragtime playing the Little boy but this kid named Max Quinlin (did alot of perfessonal theatre in chicago) got it.

I was so close twice!

Hm... back in in early 90's, when I was pondering whether I had the "chops" to dedicate myself to dance/theater, I went to an open call for "Cats". There were about 150 guys there for what I think were 3 replacements. I was a pretty good dancer, but didn't even make it past the first cut. Very intimidating... and decided that I love theater but couldn't do it as a career...

I auditioned for the Ave Q touring cast awhile ago in LA (before the announcement that it would be going to Vegas instead). I had never been to a professional audition before, so I went in with low expectations. I basically drove 3 hours to LA (I live in SD)in the pouring rain, stood in line for 2 hours, was told "thank you very much" and then turned around and went back home. I didn't get to sing or read, they just looked at my sad little resume (all community theater, no professional stuff...YET)and thanked me for coming. At least now I know what to expect from professional auditions. It was definitely worth it to get my feet wet and see what a professional audition is like.
