Um, popcultureboy, how can Ewan do a bad Scottish accent when he IS Scottish?
I'm a bit surprised at the replies here, I really like Ewan McGregor. I find him a very strong and versatile actor (Trainspotting, anyone? He was also great in Velvet Underground and The Pillow Book). I found him incredibly sexy in Moulin Rouge, with an alluring voice.

I'm surprised, too, but only because I always thought MacGregor was a widely appealing guy, looks-wise at least, even if the appeal escaped me. Kinda like Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom.
Perfection!
OOOOOooooooooooooo...... this is gonna be good.
"We may have been a bit premature in this announcement. Megan has had to decline the role due to her Will & Grace schedule."
You read my mind Popcultureboy.
I've heard from Megan herself that NBC is very strict when it comes to shooting schedules. They freak out about even one day, forget a Broadway run and since Megan seems to love her role and "Will & Grace" just as much as we love seeing her perform.
There's no doubt in my mind that she's wanted to return to NYC but because of the shooting schedules, it's just tough. I'm surprised that they are even allowing her to do that short tour with Supreme Music Program next year....
which role is ewan playing? if he's going to be nathan detroit than the singing ability shouldn't be too much of an issue but i get the feeling he'll play sky

You're right, he's playing Sky. In fact, director Michael Grandage pursued him for the role.
Here's some articles with more information about the production -

Ewan actually began his training in theatre -- he left school at 16 to pursue his dream of acting -- he started as a stagehand at the Perth Rep just to get into that world, he then took a one year dramatic arts course (by audition) at Kirkcaldy College, and then was accepted (again, by audition) for the 3 year drama course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.

The production was sold out for its full run and smashed box office records, and this was back in '98/'99 - pre-Star Wars, pre-Moulin Rouge.

I can only imagine the frenzy for "Guys and Dolls" now that he's more well known.

He was recently asked to take over for Hugh Jackman in "Boy from Oz", no wonder he turned that down to do something of higher caliber.
Regarding that other remark that he can't do a Scottish accent in Young Adam -- even though he's Scottish -- he just won BAFTA Scotland Best Actor for that film. He previously won the award in '97 for Trainspotting, another Scottish film.

id kill to see this in NY, since ill never get to london any time soon
"This staging starts rehearsals April 4 and will start previews around May 23, with an opening expected several weeks later."
At the moment Will & Grace is in production "through April 2005" so, if she in in talks about signing on to do this show, that's probably what's holding up negociations
