Ugh.
I think he'll make a great Adelaide !!!

Wow, I thought this thread would be 20 posts of, "He's so dreamy!"
I mean, I liked him okay in Moulin Rouge, but I liked the pretty colors better. :)
But Plum, as I ranted on the other thread about his possible casting, THE MAN CAN'T SING. Not even with pitch correction. It's going to be horrible.

Oh, you're in England, right? Ew. But in your position, I'm not sure I'd be going to see that revival anyway. I don't really like Guys & Dolls.
If they cast Megan Mullally I will see it. If not, wild horses couldn't drag me. And yes, I am in England.
I personally would love to see it. I love Ewan in my opinion he hasn't been bad in anything I've seen him in. EVen Star Wars, and those were crappy scripts, but he still played the character very well.
Ewan's a talented guy. I really enjoyed his voice in Moulin Rouge, and I think he might really shine in the role.
He can't act. Or sing. On stage or on film (I have seen him do both). This is the worst piece of casting in some time.
Eeh... if they make a recording, I'll be happy.

I'm rather looking forward to this in a way. How well can he sing without all the fun electronic editing doohickeys movies get to use?
this is far from the worst casting in of a show. if you think this is the worst casting of a show you haven't seen many shows then. i think it's great and i'm sure he will do wonderful great actor and i love his voice! Updated On: 11/8/04 at 03:29 PM

Well actually I have seen a ton of shows, thanks. The reason I think it's bad casting is because he can't sing or act. Inexplicably, a LOT of people think he can. I have no idea why.

i am SO EXCITED! i need a plane ticket to london right now. he will be incredible. he has the class, the acting chops and the voice. he has incredible pitch and his voice gives me chills. and did you hear theyre looking at kevin kline and megan mullally to join ewan. what a great show thatd be! a LOT of people think hes an incredible actor because he his. plain and simple. point blank period. he has more talent and class (and i dont really mean behavior wise- we all know he had some mouth on him. its like some kind of cary grant type classiness) than most, if not all, of the actors out there today. Can you please point me towards some of his classy and incredible performances then, because Lord knows I am yet to see one.

i respect him as an actor because he is so versatile. with the exception of STAR WARS (which i mean you cant blame the guy, its STAR WARS and, like many of us, he grew up on it. and his uncle had a bit part in one of the original ones.) he hasnt really done any movies for box office success. his characters are interesting, his performances in: "trainspotting", "velvet goldmine", "young adam", and (one of my favorite movies ever) "moulin rouge" were all phenominal. and incredibly different from each other. i mean he showed his leading-man quality through Catcher Block in "down with love". he just has that smile and that attitude that is so fetching. you cannot deny that he has an old-hollywood feel about him. and to me that is classy.
you cant compare stars like marilyn monroe, cary grant, the hepburns, clark gable etc. to those of today. they REEKED of class and beauty. but actors today like george clooney, ewan, and maybe catherine zeta jones fit into that category for me.
i just watched the movie version today and it just got me even more excited. i really think that Ewan fits this part and this show so well. god i hope somehow i can get to london and see it... can you imagine the stage door afterwards??? haha its going to be insane.

That's the thing- I didn't see the classiness thing in Down With Love- I saw a guy pretending to be an old-style movie star, while knowingly winking at the audience the whole time. That smirking attitude is okay, I guess, in a deliberately ironic movie like Down With Love, but it drove me absolutely nuts in Big Fish, which I thought should be played straight.
I could see him in it...he did quite well in Moulin Rouge I thought....I would love to see it.
Someone's jealous of Ewan, popcultureboy.
P.S. He's so dreamy...
