I know that we've already had a few threads like this, but now the conversation is getting legit:

It's interesting because as with all organized religions, the truth is conveniently buried between the lines. In this article they are trying to blame it on MONEY, but we all know that's a joke. BOM: THE MUSICAL = $$$. LOTS of $$$. Millions, in fact. And if this show ever did play in Salt Lake City, it would play to sell-out houses. (Maybe not in the Capitol Theater, which has 1,000s of seats, but certainly in a house the same size as the O'Neill.)
And these people freakin' KNOW that.
I'm convinced that just like with Prop 8 in California, this is another example of the Mormon Church hiding its painfully ugly, hurtful, and hateful side. The Mormon god is -- in the very words of the Mormon Church -- an "angry, jealous god." I believe it's that same anger and jealousy that will keep this wonderful piece of theater from the people who perhaps need this musical the most, and would enjoy it the most.
Oh well. I suppose I'll just Turn It Off ( like a light switch).
And clap for JOY when BOOK OF MORMON: THE MUSICAL wins its well-deserved Tony.
Peace.
How often to musical tours stop in Salt Lake City anyway? This is a legitimate question; I'm not being snarky.

very often...
SLC has a large theater community. It has great equity theaters and several tours each year.
Living in SLC.... and having seen B of M in NYC. I dont know that there is a huge audience for it here... 2 or 3 nights would be as long as it could stay here....if that.

I think it's probably their loss not to embrace it, based on what I've heard... But I guess High School Musical has more appeal? Ok, your religion is already a series of Harlequin novels.

I know a couple of guys with Mormon girlfriends whose parents hate it, possibly because of the whole baptism issue.. But once the Twilight barbies went on clearance, I picked up Alice and Victoria. Edward was there too, but he leaves me cold. But I'm up for Leah, lol.

Believe it or not (and this is a good gauge of how diverse our country is), BOM will have trouble in a lot more spots than SLC. Even something as innocuous as Billy Elliot has had trouble based on the language in the show and playing it "as is" in many places is not possible. BOM, PRISCILLA and shows like them depicting views or having language which is not acceptable to more conservative regions in the country limits the ability to tour the show everywhere.
