re: re: re: re: re: FAVORITE LYRIC.

I'm sorry but Idina singing that line is so awsome. Considering that shes now in Wicked.

Mimi and Mark sing those lyrics, I believe. Not Maureen.

re: re: re: re: re: re: re: FAVORITE LYRIC.

As far as favorite lyric, I'm dazzled by the following set of lyrics by Johnny Mercer for "Letter of the Law," from FOXY. It's during a musicalized rape trial:

"Though the plaintiff's allegation
That he harmed her reputation
May be just a fabrication
Of her own imagination
In your sheriff's estimation
It's a big consideration
And a point the population seems
completely to have missed.

Any further reparation
May be merely affectation
And a recapitulation
Of a hopeless situation
After due deliberation
In the interest of the nation
It is my adjudication
that the jury be dismissed."
"Gif me the cobra jool!"

some favorites:
these are obviously only a few of many brilliant lyrics...

"have some tea my lord some chrysanthemum tea
it's an herb that's superb for disturbances at sea."
&
"it's the day of the ox, my lord.
with but three days remaining and today already waning,
i've a few further shocks, my lord.
to begin, let me say, at the risk of repetition,
there are ships in the bay and they didn't ask permission
but they sit there all day in contemptuous array,
with a letter to convey, and they haven't gone away,
and there's every indication that they still plan to stay,
and you look a little gray, my lord.

have some tea my lord some chrysanthemum tea
while we plan, if we can, what our answer ought to be.
if the tea the shogun drank
will serve to keep the shogun tranquil,
i suggest if i may, my lord,
we consult the confucians - they have mystical solutions -
there are none wise as they, my lord."

- Chrysanthemum Tea; Stephen Sondheim (Pacific Overtures)
one of the most underrated works in Broadway history

"Long ago I left myself and now I try to return
as a stranger to a strange land and to the burn.
But the hollow inside me, might be there to guide me home again.
Back to something sweet, an opening,
a passageway to guide me home."

- Saturn Returns (reprise); Adam Guettel (Myths and Hymns)

"Could I be Leander?
On a wave am I borne?
Borne to a new home across this lonely sea?
Could you be my Hero, heart afire?
My lighthouse on the shoreline - could you be that to me?"

- Hero and Leander; Adam Guettel (Myths and Hymns)

"Some people analyze every detail.
Some people stall when they can't see the trail.
Some people freeze out of fear that they'll fail,
but I keep rollin' on.
Some people can't get success with their art.
Some people never feel love in their heart.
Some people can't tell the two things apart,
but I keep rollin' on"

- Moving Too Fast; Jason Robert Brown (L5Y)
there are tons others from L5Y, which I KNOW everyone in here quotes on a daily basis re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: FAVORITE LYRIC.

re: FAVORITE LYRIC.

With all the Rent stuff, I'm surprised this hasn't already been listed:

Roger-
The Filmmaker cannot see

Mark-
And the songwriter cannot hear

Roger-
Yet I see Mimi everywhere

Mark-
Angel’s voice is in my ear

Roger-
Just tighten those shoulders

Mark-
Just clench your jaw till you frown

Roger-
Just don't let go

Both-
Or you may drown
