Its a good show, not fantastic. Its nothing to run to and I only saw it in NY cos I got comps. I'm still trying to work out why this of all shows is now at the National.
I was at the National last night (not to see Fela) and you could feel a different kind of energy in the theatre because of the audience for Fela. It will certainly bring in a different audience to the National which can only be a good thing.
I'd be interested to know what people think of the show.
I can't figure out why the National brought this over either. It baffles me. I really have no desire to see it, although I've thought that about shows before that turned out to be fantastic. Still, I'm not making the effort.
The short (but still too long) sequence I saw at the Tony Awards this year was quite enough for me, thank you. Wild (War) Horses couldn't drag me to the National to see this.
Here we go! Forget everything you have seen about this musical. Forget every clip you have watched. Just GO! I was so unsure of this, but it is just stunning to watch. Ok so it isn't the greatest show in the world but visually it is very effective. The cast are loving it, and it fits wonderfully into the Olivier theatre. I really appreciated it for what it was. So much fun!
