Now that all of the season's revivals of plays have opened, it seems they saved the best for last. The top five in terms of favorable reviews were:
FENCES - 91% positive notices
THE ROYAL FAMILY - 90%
A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE - 87%
BRIGHTON BEACH MEMOIRS - 83%
LEND ME A TENOR - 75%
If the Tony nominations follow critical consensus the first 4 would be nominated for Best Revival of a play, but since BRIGHTON closed so quickly many Tony voters man not have seen it, so the 4th nomination may go to TENOR.
It will be interesting to see.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Posted: 4/28/10 at 12:32amI would imagine so. It's the only revival I haven't seen yet, but I would guess that it gets nominated over Royal Family.

I'd love to see the nominees be COLLECTED STORIES, BRIGHTON BEACH MEMOIRS, A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE, and LEND ME A TENOR.
But BBM will obviously not be nominated.
BRIDGE, FENCES, and TENOR seem like surefire nominees. I really hope STORIES takes that last spot over TRF which I really didn't like at all.

question: has anyone been nominated that did not get great reviews?
i am not surprised at all by the reviews for FENCES but i am by those who are.
