Does anyone miss the FIRESIDE THEATRE BOOK CLUB as much as I do?
I remember getting hardbound copies of great plays every month as well as hard to find librettos of the most recent broadway musicals.
It was like getting a little piece of theatre in the mail. It was my only contact with the far away world of Broadway when I was a kid. It also taught me to appreciated the texts of the great and often mediocre Broadway fare. I miss it.
I wasn't ever a subscriber; I don't know if it was even still around in my lifetime, however, I collect musical libretti and TONS of them are from Fireside Bookclub and I wish it was still around today. It would have been an amazing thing to get a great new play or musical in the mail every month!
I was totally depressed when it shut down. I think the last things I got from them were TAKE ME OUT and the Stoppard COAST OF UTOPIA trilogy in a nice boxed set.
Alas, Fireside Theatre, we hardly knew ye ....

I was a member for many years - it was a god-send for those of us without access to a theatre bookstore. And I loved having hardback copies of some of my favorite scripts. They still form a major section of my theatre library.
I've gotten some of these over the last few years from The Strand, the Flea Market, and eBay. My two latest acquisitions arrived today - A Class Act and A Man of No Importance. I'd love to know if there is anything close to a comprehensive list of their published works, or at least of their musical scripts.
