Lypsinka, of course!
She can just wander around as the ghost of Gloria Swanson in the rubble of the Roxy...Hal Prince's original inspiration for the production.
Since Prince is old enough to play Ben, he might be a little too old to play Young Ben.

Buddy Hackett is dead? No wonder I didn't get a Christmas card from him this year.
Sure--let Prince play Ben. This really could be the biggest film-musical disaster ever!
If you're capable of bringing back Buddy Hackett, then do it right and bring back Dorothy and Alexis and Gene. I'm sure John will drop whatever he's doing and rejoin them. I don't care how old they are - I'd love to see it!
If Hollywood wants to cast young, why not cast all the leads quite young and age them up to play their older counterparts?
If you get people who are truly talented in that age bracket, it could work- Winona Ryder's role in Edward Scissorhands comes to mind.
best thread ever
It's not like that isn't done a lot- look at Jude Law's performance in the movie Sleuth for a good example.
The most mysterious thing about this thread is that, in the end, I wasn't the murder victim at all.
It was the original poster, who seems to have been done in by "Colonel" Mustard in the "Private" Chamber with an "Apple" Corer.

And you are welcome for that, PJ

Remember the thread about a hypothetical all-black Follies that caused such a sh*tstorm?
If I ever hit the lottery big (like a hundred million or so) I'm gonna sink every dime of it into a movie version of Follies.

Eric McCormack is 47 and Megan Mullally is 52-why not reunite them and have them be Ben and Phyllis? At least we know they have both been on Broadway and can sing. Their ages are really not that far off from the correct ages, and they are known names to the average folks.
Now, Sally and Buddy...?
Obviously Megan Mullally and Sean Hayes.
And we can shoehorn a reunion of the cast of Friends into the other parts.
It'll be a made-for-TV version, produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. With all sitcom stars.
McCormack - Ben
Debra Messing - Phyllis
Mullally - Sally
Hayes - Buddy

I'd reverse Mullally and Messing.
If we're raising folks from the dead, can't we have Rose Marie and Morey Amsterdam as Sally and Buddy?

I forgot Rose Marie died.
I think she's still alive. But Morey isn't, and you can't have one without the other.
I bet she could still sing one HELL of an "I'm Still Here":
I effing LOVE Rose Marie. I loved whenever Sally sange. I'll never forget her "Cotton Fields Back Home" on the Dick Van Dyke Show.
Here's a clip of Rose Marie singing on the Dick Van Dyke Show:
Rose Marie
Whilst we're perverting Follies, I'm reminded of a production of it I saw that had a nude scene: unnecessary, distracting and much worse than Henrik stepping out from behind his cello.
There's an extra tub of ice-cream at the interval (not that there will be an interval if it's a decent production) for anyone who can guess where it came and what character(s) were involved.
Is the nudity the waiter Phyllis fools around with?

I saw a certain member of this very board in Follies. He (She?) was nude more than not, including walking around the lobby at intermission that way.
Slut.
