I know that everyone and their mothers were at FIRST DATE last night but did anyone forgo that wonderful production and check out FOREVER TANGO? Apparently it's just extended until August 11. This isn't my kind of show but I gotta see something.
I was there last night. I enjoyed it very much. It really set a beautiful mood between the beautiful music and dancing. Some of the lifts were breathtaking and all of the dancing was beautiful. The 11-piece orchestra was onstage, and consisted of 4 accordions, a piano, a keyboard, a cello, an upright bass, and 3 violins. They were fantastic, and i am always a sucker for accordion music - it transports me to wonderful places and moods. Plus, as a wonderful bonus, it had Gilberto Santa Rosa singing several of his songs, including a tango version of Conciencia (one of the most beautiful salsa songs ever written). He is apparently leaving at the end of this month, which is a real shame. I would highly recommend it if you can appreciate great music and dancing without a storyline. I expected to like it and ended up loving it.
I'm gonna pass on this one. I couldn't even make it through this thread without falling asleep.

I'm going on Thursday. I can't believe it will be the second Broadway show I've seen Maks and Karina in! They have more Broadway credits than poor Ivy Austin.

Make sure you stay for the encore after the extended curtain call. The tango & song performed at the encore are quite thrilling (love that "fast paced shake" they kept doing.) And loved the catchy tune at the curtain call, as well as the mini-dances done by each couple at the curtain call. 2 hours 20 minutes total.
Maks is quite the flirt during that numbers. Winking at several fraus in the audiends, pulling up Karina's skirt. I had the vapors.
I thought this was ok, but nothing spectacular. It seemed so poorly constructed; long stretches without any dancing abounded! How can a show called Forever Tango be light on the dancing?
There were long of frequent segments of only the orchestra or with Gilberto Santa Rosa. I knew he would be singing, but assumed his songs would actually be paired with dances, but sadly that was rarely the case.
Some of the sequences were impressive and fun, but they often felt repetitive; the lighting and costumes were so similar for each couple that it only magnified this effect.
The audience did go crazy for Maks and Karina, but there was far too little of them. Basically they got one dance per act, and weren't even included in the group dances.
If this had been 90 or 100 minutes, focused on the dancing without intermission I think it would have been a lot better.

The audience was decently full, but I know it is being papered now.
I sat in the balcony (with 10 other people) for act one and moved down to the mezz for act two.
You could tell when the audience was happy and when they were bored. They went crazy every time Gilberto or Maks and Karina came on stage, but gave somewhat tepid applause for other numbers.

The show has always been set to close on September 15th. Perhaps Maks, Karina, & Gilberto have extended their contracts 2 weeks rather than leaving at the end of July?
That is what happened. I misread the article. My bad.

I saw the show last night and the audience was very enthusiastic. The dancing is terrific as are the musicians. However... the lighting is terrible- dark, not flattering to the dancers faces and you can't see their feet quite often. In addition some of those wigs are just plain busted!
