Well, I would think that this would all depend on how the healing process goes. If Christina is not ready when the Broadway production opens it will HAVE to be Charlotte.

Interesting...I'm still a bit skeptical about Christina's foot healing in time I hope she doesn't hurt it more by coming back too soon. Still I'm glad that Charlotte is going to be on hand in the event that the foot doesnt heal by opening night.

They aren't going to change the artwork or the website unless it is absolutely clear that Applegate will not continue with the production.

As I understand it, THE NEW YORK TIMES apparently jumped the gun in announcing D'Amboise as a permenent replacement for Applegate and Broadway.com and Playbill followed suit with their stories (which have since been revised indicating that D'Amboise is a temporary replacement).

Its understandable when there is an injury for it to take a week to fully acess the situation, but I hear from a cast member that Applegate's injury is less severe then thought earlier in the week, and that the possibility of her returning before New York Opening is now a real possibility.

Ya think? And then BWW took it as the gospel and attempted to throw Applegate into the fiery pits for Broadway blasphemy by attempting to star in a musical. And when not thoroughly sated with their efforts, then began the conspiracy theories. With no concrete verification of anything it was immediately clear that Applegate lost her entire leg while standing still and drinking tequila on stage during a perfomance while simultaneously being seen in an airport clearly with all her limbs in full view and working order as she was meeting with the Weisslers who had asked Charlotte to open on Broadway weeks ago.

Like hyenas in the veldt...

Well in all fun -- who doesn't love a juicy bit of gossip and has there been anything as tasty as this story in a long time?

I think everyone was eager to throw Applegate to the wolves because everyone was reliving BUSKER ALLEY, where Tune's broken foot was an easy way for him to exit a production he didn't want to be a part of.

But its become clear that Applegate wasn't pulling a stunt to get out of her contract. This girl wants to open this show on Broadway and so does everyone else involved -- because they want to know they have work -- and Applegate is the draw.

I think Weissler was attempting to play both sides of the coin. He is a producer, after all, and wants to sound excited with either outcome.

Now we on the board get to watch all the naysayer posters from this week do another 360 and support the show again.

"A statement released Monday initially expressed optimism that Ms. Applegate would return to the show in time for the first New York preview. Mr. Weissler dismissed the idea and said he was unaware of the statement.

"I didn't know that had gone out," Mr. Weissler said. "That's a little crazy, don't you think? She broke her foot." (He subsequently explained that the release was written before the extent of the injury was known.) He confirmed that Ms. d'Amboise will open the show until Ms. Applegate is well enough to return."

So I think with what is impied here is that she will not be well enough for the opening, and what above-the-title star is going to take over a role that quickly when they won't get a Tony nod?
In my opinion, I don't think announcing Applegate was out and D'Amboise was in was all that much an escape from these statements.

well all i know is that charlotte said on the radio here that if christina has to she is going to open the show in a wheelchair. that's how bad she wants to do this show. she doesn't want to drop out. she really wants to show the people that she can do it, and can do it in this show. i respect her for that and hope she's back to do a great job.

what i was surprised wasn't mentioned was the other two replacements (solange and natascia...). i'm wondering how the two new birds will fare in a production that has already been moving. my thought is that everyone decided solange and natascia looked too young (compared to both christina and charlotte) to play the "old gals in town"

From all I've heard, Christina is a sweetheart and has been great to work with on the show, so I don't think she's threatening anyone

One has to wonder how Mr. Coleman would have felt seeing as that he was crazy about both Natascia and Solange...sad.
