FUNNY GIRL QUESTION - Which Henry Street?

Is Henry Street in Funny Girl meant to be the lower east side Henry Street or the Brooklyn Henry Street? Or is there no definitive answer to this?

In the movie it's clear the Brices live on the lower east side. But in a scene from the recent London production, Fanny speaks of the party at Rose's saloon being in Brooklyn (is that line in the original libretto?).

My guess is lower east side, as that had a large Jewish population. (I dont know the ethnic makeup of different neighborhoods of Brooklyn.)

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I can't help you, Henrik, but while we're on the subject of Funny Girl, what the heck does the lyric "with them just let one kid fall down and seven mothers faint" mean? Always been a head scratcher.

It simply implies (and generalizes) the cliché of Jewish mothers: they all take care of and worry about everyone’s kids, not just their own. One kid falls down, and all the mother’s faint as if that kid was their own.

Fania Borach (Fanny Brice) was born and grew up in Manhattan, which is where her parents's saloon was located. She did not grow up in Brooklyn.
