Thanks for posting this.  I have many fond memories of her coming to see shows at the National when I worked there.  She was quite an amazing personality.

One of the most delightfully vulgar character creations.  She got her gimmick.

No one, imho, played Mazeppa like Faith Dane. And that includes all the revivals I’ve seen through the years. I would always wait for that number to start but would always think to myself, “nope, they ain’t Faith Dane”. Thank God she was cast in the film for everyone to see for years to come.

^ And not for lack of trying, either. Faith frequently petitioned to be cast in the role again every time a revival rolled around, most recently the Bernadette Peters one, but producers were unwilling to discuss the subject.
