Hey everyone

Does anyone here love "Family Guy" as much as I do? I especially love the musical theater references, of which there are many. I recently saw the episode where they spoof "H.M.S. Pinafore," with Stewie as Captain Corcoran. They've also spoofed "The Music Man," "Annie," and the old Fred and Ginger movies. Anyone remember any other musical theater references from the show?

Don't forget the funniest of them all, THE KING AND I.

"Noah, someday we'll talk again. But there's things we'll never say. That sorrow deep inside you. It inside me, too. And it never go away. You be okay. You'll learn how to lose things..."

William Shatner in Fiddler on the Roof is a great one. And don't forget Peter's answer to Mama Rose, with his musical number about making Meg a star, based on "...Coming Up Roses"

and there's the arguably offensive Miss Saigon reference and the comment Stewie makes about Rent being a bad show. Then the Leslie Uggams flashback.

"God, this is worse than Seussical!"

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Wasn't there a "My Fair Lady" storyline in an episode?

sally, My Fair Lady was the basis for the subplot where Stewie attempts to teach the British girl to speak properly. her name was Eliza and they do a great Rain In Spain variation involving a wife and knife. Also interesting to note that Stewie's voice is based on Rex Harrison as Henry Higgins.

Yes, thank you all for jogging my memory. I've actually seen every "Family Guy" episode there is, I think. I own all three seasons on DVD. I can't wait till February when the series gets a new birth!

Peter said "if you want to do a bad show, why not just do RENT"

which didn't make me happy re: Family Guy musical theater references

I literally died when I saw the Music Man reference where Lois and Brian talk in rhythm.

Also, I dont think that many people have caught this one:
When there is a huge storm, and Lois and the kids are hiding in the hallway, and Lois tells Peter to stop playing the water glasses--he's playing "What I Did For Love"

oh this is one of my all time favorite shows. This one isn't musical theatre referenced, but i nthe episode where Peter becomes friends with Paulie (in the mob) and Paulie tries to wack off Lois, he tries it once at Meg's play, Death of a Salesman "we're not supposed to show death in school. So in the end we run across the stage with streamers" or something like that.

Oh and there is one on Cats. Where Peter accidentally drives his car into one of the cats on stage. "Oh my God! I am so sorry. I didn't see him! Yo uguys saw that right? He just jumped right in front of my car!"

not the first time a cartoon has spoofed CATS. in an episode of The Critic, there's some sort of event that leads to the destruction of the theatre where CATS is playing, to which Jay Sherman replies "And nothing of value was lost!"

As much as I love CATS, I could not stop laughing at the "Family Guy" reference. And, of course, I love the "Miss Saigon" one. Just see my signature...

I loved when Stewie was in Performing Arts Camp, and referred to his partner as "Bebe No-worth"!

ooh another rference came to mind...

when Peter and Lois are watching a performance of a Chekhov play, I wanna say it was Uncle Vanya. after a bit of dull dialogue, Peter can be heard loudly over the actors, "What the hell is this? Somebody throw a pie or somethin!"
