"ive never seen the color purple.
ive never seen american idol.
ive never heard fantasia sing before.
just googled and found her singing "Summertime" on Am Idol. I dont know about her acting, but the girl can sing"
I think it would be very hard for someone who didn't know who she was not to appreciate her singing. If she was an unknown, they'd all likely love her here. When this girl simply sings, she is one of the best in the business. Her summertime performance is hailed to this day as the best idol performance ever on the american idol stage. That's pretty good for a person who people claim can't sing to hold that title as well.
A few years ago she did a tribute to Elton John at the Kennedy Center honors, she performed "Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word" and it was simply fantastic. Anyone listening to her summertime or "sorry" or "I believe" or "Two Weeks Notice" or "I feel Beautiful" and still claims she can't sing, is nothing but a hater period and need to seek help as they are in true denial.
She's a fantastic vocalist.

Welll that was an interesting intense outpouring and all for naught.I think the producers planted this story and watched reaction. Well it succeeded no Fantasia.
Boy, I am thrilled. Kenita will be great--IMO, such an improvement over Fantasia.

If Fantasia was Celie, then Hugh Jackman would be Harpo and Cheno would be Sofia. (ie BAD CASTING!!!) Thank the lord for Kenita!

People should run to the Broadway Theatre to see Jeannette Bayardelle who is giving a magnificent, once-in-a-lifetime performance as Celie. She is *perfect* in the role.

Whew! Such a relief, it is not Fantasia.
Guys, Fantasia is still going into the show. Although an official date has yet to be determined as to when she'll start, word around the theater is that Kenita will be there temporarily through around May, which is when Fantasia will then come in and assume the role.
Miller (who went on numerous times for LaChanze) isn't interested in playing Celie on a long term basis. She was offered it when LaChanze decided not to renew her contract last year and turned it down, which was when Bayardelle (a swing who served as the second cover) was bumped up to the principle position.
It has been known since before Janette even took over that she would be leaving in the spring to launch the tour. LaChanze had been contracted to return for thirteen weeks in between Janette's departure and the new full time Celie coming in, but due to a shift in dates she was unable to return. Kenita Miller is now filling the void in that three month gap and will exit the show at the conclusion of that time frame.
Virgo I disagree. You can’t deny that her voice is not to everyone’s liking. Like Daphne Rubin-Vega, she has a voice that some people just aren’t going to find pleasing. She can emote and sing in tune, but her timbre is not pleasant to everyone. I see her getting much the same polarizing reaction that Daphne's Fantine got.
I believe Miller has a 3 month contract. Meaning Fantasia would start around May 22.
Just saw Jeannette tonight and she is amazing!
After seeing the show tonight, there is NO way Fantasia can perform to that caliber eight times a week. I would not be surprised if she had a 6 show contract and/or they lowered the key to I'm Here for her.

admanrich, my sentiment also. It’s not a matter of Fantasia being able to sing or act, it’s the matter of does she have the chops to do 8 shows a week.
Last night on American Idol, Ryan Seacrest said that on Thursday a former Idol is coming on to make a "big announcement". I think it seems far-fetched but could it be Fantasia announcing her Broadway bow?
hmmm...he did say that...didn't he?
I think she'll be good...
Form the official American Idol website:
"Fantasia will perform live and make a special announcement on the American Idol results show Thursday, Feb. 22 (8:00-9:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) on FOX.
After winning “Idol” in May 2004, Fantasia was signed to Simon Fuller’s 19 Recordings, which released her album through Clive Davis’ SonyBMG. Her debut single “I Believe” marked the first time in Billboard Hot 100 chart history that an artist went straight to No. 1 with his or her inaugural single. This led to the arrival of Fantasia’s RIAA platinum debut album, “Free Yourself,” in 2004. Fantasia has garnered more than 20 award nominations from the Grammy Awards, American Music Awards, Vibe Awards, Soul Train Awards and Soul Train “Lady of Soul” Awards, Billboard Music Awards and R&B and Hip-Hop Awards, BET Awards, NAACP Image Awards and Teen Choice Awards. Her success culminated in a New York Times best-selling autobiography, “Life is Not a Fairy Tale” (Simon & Schuster, September 2005), and a candidly revealing memoir that was adapted as a Lifetime original movie in August 2006. Most recently, Fantasia worked with music greats Missy Elliot, Big Boi, OutKast, Dre, Vidal and Swizz Beatz on her self-titled album, “FANTASIA,” which was released last Dec. 12."
Ah-ha...sounds like my suspicions were right...unless she's replacing Laura Bell Bundy in Legally Blonde.
