Fantasia Wins Theatre World Award

It's unusual for the Theatre World people to give awards to cast replacements, isn't it?
As for the guy from "Amadeus," even though he was in that it could be possible for them to give him one.
Barbara Cook basically had the lead in "Flahooley", but got her Theatre World Award for her supporting role in "Plain and Fancy".

Sondheimboy-
If it is unusual to give replacements the Theatre World award- it just shows how impressive Fantasia is in the role. As the reviews unanimously said - Fantasia brings this play back from the dead, and she is one of the most exciting and moving actresses to come around Broadway in 20 years. So Im sure they chose not to ignore her brilliant acting.

No, many replacements have been given this award. They usually award "big names" and then some unknown Broadway actors.
It's really funny that the Fantasia fans attack me for saying that she is always crying, plus they don't read the good things I said of her, after my comment, and when did I say is bad to cry? LOL!!!
Thanks for making me laugh.

Muscle -
So this is supportive?
LOL, Fantasia did boost the box office of the show, but Oprah doesn't owe her anything, do you think she is not getting paid for it?
Anyways, I have nothing against Fantasia, but for w/e reason all the pix I have ever seen of her, are pics in which she is crying! It's hilarious. She cries all the time!
Jane is terrific, I just saw her Georgia Rule.
Whats so funny? Fantasia is human and she cries just like we all do. Go see the play and maybe you will be crying along with her - like many of the people did on Saturday night. Some people were so overcome with emotion they couldnt even talk.
So- go ahead and laugh. Im sure Fantasia is laughing all the way to the bank too.

By the way Muscle man
Are you a DeGarmo fan?
Whats your fascination with Hairspray?
"Oprah has seen The Color Purple about 100 times, yet, she hasn't seen Hairspray or any other show currently playing, it seems. I don't know, but if I were producing a show on Broadway, I'd want to see the other shows, to know what kind of product Im putting out there."
Sounds like it. LOL. Im having a good laugh now. Comparing Hairspray to the Color Purple is like comparing Grease to Les Miserable. LOL.

We get it dreamer.. You like Fantasia...
Good for you, you are welcome to your opinion, as we are ours.

Oh man, you make less sense by the minute.
You can laugh all you want, good for Fantasia, she must have made a fortune for being in this show. Good for her, but what do you care about her bank account? Unless you are really her?
I'd rather see Grease! than Les Miz or The Color Purple anyday. The movie "The Color Purple" I could watch over and over. It's fantastic.

Nope not on her bankroll and Im certainly not Fantasia.
Like I said before, I just know talent when I see it- and give credit where credit is due.
Edited to add: I didnt like the movie nearly as much as the play. I dont know why- but I find the play to be very entertaining and the actors in it very talented. Love the new Sophia- she deserved a Theatre award - or was she not eligible?

Yep tons of shows. Right now The Color Purple is the one I am posting about.
Do you want a list?
Lets see My very first broadway show was
Dancin - The Bob Fosse musical with Wayne Cilento - who taught a master class at the dance studio I was a member of the dance troupe there.
Oklahoma - loved it - one of the revivals
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat - the original cast - i knew the asst choreographer - didnt love it - it was dark and dreary costuming liked the road show with Donny Osmond - believe it or not - better.
Tap Dance Kid - with Hinton Battle. Very good show - loved the dancing in it.
Sophisticated Ladies - again Hinton Battle was in this one too - very good show.
42nd Street - with Jerry Orbach - loved it too.
Beauty and the Beast
Les Miserables probably my all time favorite broadway show..
Cats -disappointed with this one even though Betty Buckley was amazing.
Movin Out - loved the Twyla Tharp dancers - it was a little repetitive after a while though - but i could truly appreciate the talent of them though - amazing! And of course I love Billy Joel - so it was a win win for me.
Phantom - my husband loves this one - but it was just ok to me - I was bored with it. But I could appreciate the work.
I know Im missing a few- let me get a list out- Im sure I have seen ten more.
I havent seen alot of the newer musicals because I live in Boston now and its harder to get to NY to see them.
Have you seen these -or are you too young - you see now Im showing my age with these ones.

also- I have been wanting to see Wicked - but the tickets are way too much money- and I wont spend $500.00 to see one show. So- I guess Im missing out. Although my step daughter saw Wicked and liked the Color Purple more - she was crying during the show and said she never felt so moved by a show like that before - Shes seen her fair share of them too.
I will get back to you on the others I have seen-but really - Les Miserable and The color purple are the two that have MOVED me the most so far.

Oh how could I forget West Side Story - I loved loved it. This had to be about 20 years ago by now.
One of my co-dancers was in it and also Karen Black too. I adore that show. Adore it.

Diva-
Lion King - but the one like 5 or 10 years ago.
Chorus Line - the original time around.
Oh- On your Toes - that was cute.
As you can see I generally gravitate to the Dancing shows -because that is my love - but sometimes- I do go to the others.
I have seen a wonderful version of FOSSE - the work of Bob Fosse in Boston. I loved loved it - his choreography is so mesmerizing and daring.
Ive seen road shows of No, No Nanette, Damn Yankees, I know there are more - but I hope this list shows you my taste in shows.

Oh -
Tommy - loved this show so much - forgot about that one - that was one of my favorites too.
One of the dancers in that show danced with Charles Kelly who was huge 20 years ago at the Broadway Dance Center I believe. Then Frank Hatchett took over - I think hes still there - not sure about CK though. I digress....
I will hit you back when more come to my mind.

Oh then you are around my age then-
so we mustve seen the same shows?
I have seen Chicago too-but not the original, and of course Cabaret. That was soooo good.
Now do you see I am not just a fan of Fantasia - I am a fan of Broadway too.
Let me know which of the shows I have listed you have seen- we can compare notes. I will take a closer look at your profile - I just clicked on it and it said over 35. I will hit you back.

If you dont see shows in NY how can you comment on them?
How can you have an opinion if you havent seen them?
re: Fantasia Wins Theatre World Award#70
Posted: 5/22/07 at 12:51pm
Where did I comment on the show?
I never do that. I just commented on her crying all of the time. I never said a thing about the performance.
Daredevil
Surviving Christmas
Haunted Mansion
to name a couple.

Did you not say you have your opinion and I have mine. So what is your opinion?
And if you havent seen the Broadway shows- I guess Im more qualified to know whats good on BROADWAY than you are. You may be more knowledgable about LA. Right?

Ive only seen Haunted Mansion with my kids- I did see your picture in your profile - cool costume.
Is Surviving Christmas the one with Jamie Lee Curtis? or is that another one Im thinking of?

"So what is your opinion? "
My opinion is that Fantasia cries at the drop of a hat. But I think that's pretty much a fact.
And I wouldn't consider you more QUALIFIED.
I work in the industry. Sounds to me like you don't, and are only an audience member. Which is fine, don't get me wrong, it's just that I do this for a living.

Diva-
ROFLMAO!!!!
I did do many theatrical shows myself mainly as a choregrapher - so I feel as qualified as someone who wears costumes in shows.
Wheres your theatre experience on Broadway? You work in LA- where are your Broadway and acting credits?
Also, having met Fantasia a half a dozen times I am definitely more qualified to talk about her crying than you do - since you are judging her from a picture.
If you are so qualified why are you here all day instead of working?
This is hilarious. You dont know Fantasia but you are more qualified - you dont see broadway shows or even seen Fantasia in the Color purple and you are more qualified. LOL.
You made my day. roflmao.
