Definietly no hard feelings! I totally respect what you're saying, and I really understand what you mean. It really is speculation at this point.

So, I understand what you're saying. As I said no hard feelings - you are always there when I need to ask a question about Verdon, Charity, or whatever - and you know I appreciate that.. re: Fantasia part in Dreamgirls You've actually told me a lot of things I didn't know - the Verdon solo album, etc.

"And that "jumpin' around and screamin'" is not called soul. It's called "Please don't notice my lack of versatility or the fact that I only have a 5 note range or that you have all been dooped into believing that I am this amazing talent."

Me and my dad use to make fun of her for that jumping around when she was on American Idol, we like to call it the bo bo barino shuffle. My god I hate her voice!

I'm sorry. I can't listen to her. She's had her moments and she's not completely hopeless, but my God if this rumor is true then you couldn't pay me to see this movie. Not even if you threw in free Rasinettes.

i'm a tough act to follow because when i'm done i take the microphone with me.

Ya'll know I had to put my two cents in on this one being that I'm Fantasia's biggest fan on these boards.

As for her "screaming" it's often reffered to as a "gospel scream" or "squall." It's not actually a scream. If it were, she wouldn't be able to talk let alone sing. It's a gospel technique that many gospel singers use (The Clark Sisters, Shirley Ceaser) I don't expect many people on here to appreciate that because it's so opposite of everything that's "broadway."

Now, I understand that her voice is an either you love it or hate it thing. I happen to love it. I don't care what anybody says, homegirls voice is straight up SOUL. She actually is very versatile and can smooth out her vocals to make them less raspy. I don't think many of you have been doing your Dreamgirls homework because if she has been cast as Lorell, it's perfect. Her voice is very similar to Loretta Divine's. They both have a very high shrill sound, so I can't see why everybody's making a big deal out of it. Also, Fantasia has such a unique sound that all 3 dreams will stand out, which is how I like it because it gets boring when they all sound the same.

Comparing Fantasia to other idols/singers...She did win the compeition, so somebody likes her and her CD will be double platinum shortly if it already isn't. I like Tamia, Faith, Vivian Greene, but they are not selling that well. Fantasia's got the spark.

Apparently you haven't been listening to Fantasia she can sing and she is a brilliant artist. If you don't like her that is your problem. Somebody must have thought she sounded pretty darn good.

Don't hate, participate

^ I love how you joined the board to state Fantasia is a "brilliant artist." Too funny.

Well, I think Fantasia is a wonderful choice. Yeah, if Aaliyah was here then she probably would have been good for the part. Fantasia will do just as good. Before you go casting stones against someone at least give them a chance to prove themself. Fantasia deserves a chance just like everybody else. They must have thought she could do the part if they chose her. At least she's out there trying. Fantasia shake the haters off.

I hate a hater.

before i begin let me say that i LOVE the way people are responding to the casting and the making of this film; it shows how much we all care about how it's made and how much we want it to be a success.

NOW, fantasia, if she is indeed casted in the film, would definitely be cast as Lorell or another role, not Effie because just like Beyonce was terribly wrong as Effie, but perfect for deena, fantasia is terribly right for the part of Lorell. If any of you paid attention to who the characters are in the show, you know that

effie- sassy, yet some refined quality to her
deena- quiet, reserved, obeys the rules
lorell- the comic one, the loud one, the one you could really tell was her own person and definitely you could tell she was from the hood

and lorells voice is VERY soulful. if anyone follows fantasia, they know that she embodies all the qualities of Lorell making her, in my opinion, the perfect choice. now saying the woman jus cant sing without riffing is silly, you have to have a clear sound to begin with to even fathom a riff. and thats all.

I just see so many simularities between Loreeta Devine and Fantasia and that's why I'm advocating Fantasia play Lorell so much. Loretta Devine when she speaks she has a very soft voice like a baby just like Fantasia. Plus Loretta Devine and Fantasia both have those really high soulful screehing voices. Plus Fantaisa has that hood sass that is needed for Lorell yet she also possess that innocent teenage outlook on the world. I mean Lorell did think losing her virginty made her a woman for god's sake.
