I wish I could watch those auditions, I bet they will be amazing in every way shape and form possible -- like AI auditions on crack.

My goodness - the CASTING DIRECTORS! "And I Am Telling You" over and over and over and over and over and over again with everyone singing as HIGH AND AS LOUD AND AS POWERFUL as they can!

It's a reality show in itself.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I can't imagine...isn't the whole point that no one but Effie has that kinda soulful voice? So if she's not Effie, and they seem to make it very clear that Effie will be an unknown, then how is that gonna work? Lorell can't be all sassy, soulful singer either, but Fantasia is DEFINITELY outta the norm with her personality, style, and voice...

It's like having another large council member in Hairspray and then watchin' them try to knock on Tracy for being too big...

If I show you the darkness I hold inside, will you bring me to light?

Ummm... haven't you heard Lorrell's duet "Ain't No Party" sung by the ever so fabulous Loretta Devine?

I will say this for Fantasia - She has a great personality, and can work the crowd. But I don't know if that is enough for this film. Considering she won't really have a "crowd" to work.

ljay - right, that's where the acting aspect comes in. There's a difference between performing and acting.

And since I haven't seen Fantasia act, I won't judge.

Well, we are all entitled to our opinions and this is all speculation anyway. It's kinda silly isn't it?

Silly? Maybe...but fun to speculate and share opinions.

They should have someone who has done the show before do some of the parts....

Hell, I would love if they just used the original cast but alas they are too old.

So we all know Beyonce is playing Deena. I mean the casting is THERE. Maybe Fantasia is playing Lorell.

After hearing Jennifer Hudson on the HAIR benefit cd. She needs to play Effie. I think she would make an amazing Effie.

Deena and Effie are the two parts of the show. It is definally a two girl show..... (IE Chicago)

Let them cast her.

PLEASE OH PLEASE OH PLEASE.

It sounds like someone is strangling a duck when she sings.

And that "jumpin' around and screamin'" is not called soul. It's called "Please don't notice my lack of versatility or the fact that I only have a 5 note range or that you have all been dooped into believing that I am this amazing talent."

This goes out to all my baby mamas.

Wow... I totally disagree..Its just a matter of style preference. I've seen Fantasia live and she is amazing and sweet and friendly. Lots of people scream (especially Rockers imo) and it doesn't seem to hurt them. Every review I've ever read of hers says she is a true talented R&B diva.

I just can't stand her. She makes my throat hurt.

Lorelle is one of my favorite roles in Dreamgirls bested only by the role of Effie and Fantasia is going to ruin it.

Fantasia's Summerfest Review

Summerfest review: Fantasia
Posted: July 11, 2005
Without the choreographed lighting and slick production values of the "American Idol" TV programs, its contest winners have to rely solely on their own talents in concert once their run on the reality show has ended.

Fantasia, last year's winner, did just that Sunday night for an overflow crowd at the Briggs & Stratton Big Backyard featuring the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Miller High Life.

Bounding exuberantly across the stage in a gold-buttoned black outfit, the soulful vocalist belted her way through songs such as "Selfish" and "It's All Good" from her platinum debut album, "Free Yourself."

The stage presence, emotion and personal connection with her fans that made Fantasia an "Idol" is still a compelling part of her live show. So is her deep, powerful voice.

Pounding repeatedly at her heart and prompting the crowd to sing along, Fantasia led her two backup singers and four-piece band into a medley of slow, funky covers, including Rufus' "Tell Me Something Good" and Prince's "Purple Rain."

While it took the show's first winner, Kelly Clarkson, a few years to break out of the constraints of being an "American Idol," Fantasia already is distinguishing herself not as a mere reality TV star, but a bona fide R&B diva.

And you are entitled to.

And I am also so glad that the Journal Sentinal in Wisconsin likes her too. They certainly have their fingers on the pulse of R&B Music in America.

This is the best news i've heard today , Go Fantasia !!!!There are a lot of people out there that are aware of Fantasia's talent and potential for the future , wasn't it just last week that Patti labelle was saying Fantasia was going to become the next R&B legend , I agree wholeheartedly , and for those who say she can't sing then there must be a whole other definition of singing that I must not be aware of , I can't tell you how happy this news has made me

This is great singing? This is the new R&B legend?

http://www.angelfire.com/musicals/fantasianc/songs/ibelievegf.mp3
and you can hear other clips of her here.. http://www.angelfire.com/music5/fantasianc/

All I hear is screaming! She dosen't sing a melody.
I've seen live performances of her on TV (not from AI) and all she did was scream - she barely sang any melody - she riffed the whole song. It was sickening.

You wan't good R&B singers? Check out the late Aaliyah, check out Faith Evans, Vivian Green, Tamia, and there are more who are much better than Fantasia.

ljay889, love you and I mean that but you may want to watch what you say about people and their talent considering that you are such an advocate of Christina Applegate playing Charity.

I know what you're saying, dear re: Fantasia part in Dreamgirls but I don't go around calling Christina "The next legendary Broadway voice." But I am not the only one who enjoys Christina as Charity.

No, honey I know and I was very hesitant to say that. I don't anyone on here is saying that Fantasia will become a legendary R&B singer either, that was a quote. Some people thing she will do a good job and others do not. I mean, hell we are all getting all crazy over this and like I said earlier it is all speculation. No hard feelings I hope babe.
