You don't speak for me B3TA07! I for one am sick of movies turning into musicals and musicals turning into movies, but I am especially sick of movies turning into musicals which then turn into movies...

perfectliar...while I admit there are a small handful of musical movies I do enjoy....overall, I don't like it!

This would be great for Fantasia. She was marvelous in the stage musical, so as long as the stage version is translated well to film, her performance would be seen by so many who couldn't see her live.

I really don't feel like the songs in any way improve on what the Spielberg film did not all-that-long ago...personally, I think the idea is sort of ridiculous at this point.

Thanks Brian, I hope Felicia and Elisabeth sign on to the movie. This is heart breaking I wasjust on the CP site and was reading the b'way cast and then I went back to it and it was gone terrible shame.

I really see no point in adapting this musical to the silver screen.
It would work okay as a TV movie a la RAISIN IN THE SUN, but as a full-length feature film starring Fantasia of all people? No thank you.

I've been brooding about this post LONG before the thread ever started. I have to say I'm 100% backing the production for this film for the Silver Screen.
I'd love to see this done as a TV movie, but don't think it would get the exposure it really deserves. I still agree with my entire heart what Scott Sanders said, "This story NEEDED to sing".
However, I don't really think Fantasia really should be filling the role of Celie. No, I never saw her great performance, and I'm not saying she doesn't DESERVE it...I just feel there are other talented actresses who are MORE deserving of this role.
I would love to see this directed by Rob Marshall. And no, it's not because of CHICAGO. In fact, it has NOTHING to do with what he did for CHICAGO...I love love love love love Memoirs of a Geisha and think he could really do some amazing things with The Color Purple.
