Posted: 4/1/07 at 7:56pmMr. Tuttle, the use of the word rape when looked at by its dictionary definaton means abduction. Over the years it has turned into somone being forced into sexual activity. But, there is nothing wrong with them using it in a song. It would be the same thing as someone talking about something being very queer. Queer has the original meaning of being strang or mysterious. There are a lot of words that used to mean different things but over time they have changed.

Mr. Tuttle, the word "rape" was not added to this production. It has ALWAYS been there. In fact, Mr. Jones, the lyricist, has rewritten the song to take out most references to the word.
It was never a gimmick. And Winston is correct as to its usage.

Why thank you so much for the answer! Gee wiz...I never noticed that before. How could I have missed that. And here I thought they were just saying rape for shock value. In the future, I will make sure to ask you in advance of making such a stupid mistake!
I'm sitting here with Rita and I'll let her know, too!

Oh, by the way Liza Minnelli starred in The Fantasticks in 1964 if Im not mistaken, she starred in the National Tour.
She also sings "Try to Remember" and "I Can See It" in some of her recordings. In her "Live at the Carnegie Hall" she opened the show with "I Can See It" her version of that song is just so powerful, I've always loved that song by her, but didn't know it was part of this show. Has anyone heard it?
Also, an experience I wanted to share is that Richard Ianni played El Gallo in this production I saw in Fort Lauderdale, and he was in the original production of "Funny Girl" along Barbra Streisand, when she was 20yo, so I asked him how was she like? He said that he and Babs spoke in Italian sometimes(I had no idea she spoke Italian), he said he got along with her, but she didn't get along with everyone in the cast.

I don't know anything about the Sullivan Street production, but Snapple has 199 seats. Photo is here:

I heard that the first row is really close to the stage and you practically have to crane your neck to see it. I have tickets for the first row and I certainly hope that's not the case.
So it looks like Babs was diva before she was actually diva ?

Yeah, it seems Babs has always been difficult to get along with.
The theatre pix look lovely!

Posted: 4/2/07 at 2:57pmI found a not-so-clear seating chart, and it looks like there about 6 or 7 rows, and a thrust stage. Which, believe it or not, sounds larger than Sullivan St., where there were...what? ...4 rows?

I saw the FANTASTICKS last September.
Only show I'd almost walked out of.
It was awful. The show it self sucks (yes, it SUCKS) and the staging leaves much to be desired. I spent my time trying to figure Sarah Jane Everman looked like.
It took me 3 hours to realize she looks like my cousin...but besides that, this show is not a must see.

Posted: 4/2/07 at 11:02pmI'm looking foward to seeing it in Anthony's second week! A little school's over treat! YAY! I can't wait! He's such a cutie and a really sweet guy! I'm really happy for him!

What is there not to love about it?

Posted: 4/3/07 at 4:01amWell, Anthony is very cute, but Santino Fontana(currently playing the role of Matt, isn't bad to look at either)

When I saw it at Sullivan St., the guy playing Matt was blond and really cute...kinda like Federov. And I was in a community theatre production (I played the Mute...I should have been Mortimer, but don't get me started....) where I had a crush on the guy playing Matt. So there must be something about these Matts in the Fantasticks!
Reading the above thread again....I guess this is one of those shows you either love or hate!!!
