I'm surprised there's not already a thread on this, but I couldn't find one, so I'm starting this. What I consider to be the best play on Broadway closed today; was anyone at the final performance? Anything special to report? It's really too bad this show didn't stay open longer.

Wow- Talk about going quietly. I had no idea. This was a wonderful show- I only wish they could have killed cats for a little longer; but those fecking producers always have to pick on wee little kitties.

Not that quiet...it's a Playbill.com top story and has been in the news a bit since the announcement.

It's my favorite play on Broadway right now. Tomorrow, The History Boys remains my favorite.

I'm sure it'd be awfully difficult to tour. What a shame. GREAT show.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

They should auction off some of those body parts.

How come it will be difficult to tour?

It will be missed.
I wanted to see it last week, I didn't have enough time. I was so pissed off.

I never got to see this show re: Farewell to The Lieutenant of Inishmore :-(. I looooved The Pillowman and so I'm sure I would've loved another McDonagh play. Bummer.

Difficult to tour due to:

***SPOILERS BELOW***

a) all the blood that would need to be washed from the set and costumes after every performance. finding a place to properly clean those costumes in every city could be tricky. and before traveling to the next city the set would need to be cleaned of blood before being loaded back into the truck. could even add an extra day to traveling.

b) the set design. the flooring is a bit tricky, but this isn't a large concern.

What an amazing experience it was to see this show, enjoyed it so much more than History Boys. Heres hoping McDonagh has more in store for Broadway in the coming years.

Ah, I think I would have liked this. My acting coach said it was good. He has good taste, he recommended The Pillowman to me which I think was just brilliant.

This, Sweeney, and apparently Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (right?) are all closing tonight. Wouldn't that be bad for business, having three shows closing in one night?

You're a smart man, Capn. The floor is not the real problem, but the blood is tricky. Of course, the set, costumes and all were designed for the clean-up. Still, most regional theatres can't handle the 40 loads it takes to clean it.

Also, would it play in Des Moines? (Sorry for anyone who lives there, but it is the testing ground for most films, etc.)

I've only heard positive reviews of this show. I agree with #1Elphie, it's surprising that so few people have posted on this thread! Really, there's more to Broadway than musicals.

Bye, Inishmore! I would have loved to have been there this afternoon, but alas, I bought my Scoundrels ticket before they announced their closing. I almost thought I was going to be able to swing a ticket transaction and make it to the Lyceum, but lo and behold, they were SOLD OUT this afternoon! GOOD FOR THEM!!! I felt horrible, because I figured with Scoundrels, Sweeney, and Mother Courage closing today, it would have been left in the lurch. I would have loved to have been there, but knowing that they at least had a full house made me a lot happier to be heading over to the Imperial instead.

I really loved this show, and I'm so glad I got to see it as many times as I did. I wish I could have seen the replacements, but alas, they weren't there for very long!

Farewell, Wee Feckin' Thomas! You'll be missed.

Did anyone here go to the Inishmore last? I'm dying to hear a review. Did they bring the crew out to get a well deserved hand for their hard work cleaning that stage every night? Did Wee Thomas and his wrangler make an additional appearance? Speech?

Anyone???

All this bloodshed, for nothing? So sad this show has closed.
Goodnight wee Thomas.

Bump...If there was nobody from here at the closing, did anyone see the show with the replacements at all in the last two weeks? I'm curious to hear how they did/compared.

This is one show I really wanted to see but couldn't. I think I watched the video of it about one thousand times. I spend way too much time planning my dream NYC trip, and this was always pn the itinerary. It shall be missed.

"What happens to Wee Thomas now?

Where will he go ?"

Mr. Ed, the original Wee Thomas who had been with the show since the Atlantic, has gone back to his home with his owner. Fairfax, the understudy who took over the roll full time two weeks ago when the cast changed, has found a new home with a crew member. :o)

They are both in very good hands! Although they were always treated well at the show, I am sure they are happy to be out of those dressing rooms and back to normal homes.
