Am I the only one who HATES Alan Cumming's "Willkommen" on the revival cast recording?

I don't hate it, but I do think his Emcee is overated ON DISC (I love him on the Donmar BBC tv broadcast and would love to see him live). Still those songs are so hard to do, even in a new interpretation of the show, as they are SO connected with the two Joel versions.

I'm glad so many people picked the OBCR! I know for many who know sthe show more from the updated script, in the past have felt it's a bit oldfashioned. And it is a bit of an odd mix (as I suppose the show was) between a traditional big Braodway sound and the more slinky, sleazy cabaret sound they were going for. Don Walker's orchestrations are classic too even if they also straddle the fence

Lotte is brilliant, (I can see why Meeskite was nearly always cut even back then but it's nice to have on CD), apparantly Hayworth was almost universally seen by critics as the "one wildly wrong note" and her performances were very uneven but I think she's *perfect* on the recording and Bert is as well (what game show did he host?)--I love Why Should I Wake Up (and am glad it's reused, and in a good spot, in the 2006 London revival).

Spide I'm glad you like the 2006 London recording re: Fav. CABARET cast recording I agree with lots of your comments on it.

As much as I love Why Should I Wake Up though I think Don't Go--the song written for its spot for the 1987 Prince revival--makes more dramatic sense. I know it's on the Jay complete recording but can't afford that yet--I'd love to hear a non bootleg of the song--what do others think of it?

My top 3:

1. Film Soundtrack with Liza
2. Broadway revival with Cumming/Richardson
3. Original Production with Lenya

I think his Emcee is overrated on Disc too. I think he's a great performer, but I feel like his Willkommen sounds kind of Cirque du Soleil-ish.

I really want to hear the London recording, but I dont know if my library system owns a copy!
