Favorite 'Mother' role in a Broadway show...

In honor of Mother's Day, I thought it would be appropriate to have a post honoring those great "Mother" roles. This should be fun!

Okay, I'll start...

Donna Sheridan in Mamma Mia! and Edna Turnblad in Hairspray.

PS We're gonna do the same thing for Father's Day so nobody better steal my idea!! HAHA

Eugene's mother Kate in the The Brighton Beach Trilogy.

Mamma Rose is not only the greatest mother character ever developed from the stage but she is by far one of the greatest parts in theatrical history. She is the mother of all mothers.

Margaret Johnson in The Light in the Piazza.

Momma Rose...no question.

Let's also not forget Kim from "Miss Saigon." She kills herself so that her son can be taken to America so that he can have a much better life than she could have provided for him in Vietnam.

There are very few mother roles on Broadway without a fatal flaw or two...
I'll go with the mother of all mothers, though, since it's even her name! Mother in Ragtime. Sarah's a mommy in Ragtime, too, let's not forget!

Also still hooked on Margaret Johnson as well...

Also, technically a mother...

Matron Mama Morton from Chicago...when you're good to mama, mama's good to you...

Madam Rose in GYPSY..........she is never, ever called Mamma Rose in the show.......:)

Well, maybe not the BEST mother in the world....Medea. She's probably the worst, actually.

Also, Mrs. Johnston in Blood Brothers.
