Kind of in the same category, but the medieval covers of pop songs that play during the Six pre-show really made me smile.

Today's headline reminded me--the opening of the original Jekyll and Hyde was also quite effective, with the partial scrim in the middle of the stage and the towers surrounding it, setting up a good air of mystery. Unfortunately two hours of complete garbage followed it, but at least the opening moments were effective.

I've only seen the show at the Lincoln Archive so I can only imagine what it must have looked like in person, but I always thought the set for "The Visit" looks so dark, chilling and apocalyptic.

The set was beautiful, but also had major sight-line issues. Luckily John Doyle's direction had everything played down towards the front so you didn't miss much, but unless you were seated dead center, the way the proscenium walls are at the Lyceum hid large sections of the set.
