Well, Violet and Daisy are both mezzo roles, though Vi is *usually* a third higher than Miss Daisy. :) Violet is the lovable "homebody" who wants to get married and settle down and just "find true love", whereas Daisy is a bit of a ham and a go getter -- craves fortune and fame and constant adoration (maybe this tells you a little bit about my personality as this is my "dream role"). They both learn that their ideals aren't what they're cracked up to be and that though nothing else in life is secure or forever, the only thing that they can actually rely on is each other. (Aww, how cliche...right?!)
It's actually very touching, and despite some qualms concerning lyrics, I think its very universal... just about anyone can relate to the story on some level. We've all had moments where we feel like "the freak".
"You! You are the worst thing to happen to musical theatre since Andrew Lloyd Webber! And you, well, I just plain don't like you."
