I would also say 42nd Street is classic. South Pacific is classic as well. Wicked's may be new but it's still one of my favorites.

Gypsy
South Pacific
The Phantom of the Opera (it is the title song, but it's thrillingly executed)

How to properly use its/it's:
Its is the possessive. It's is the contraction for it is...

It's wonderful when a great score has a great Overture to match, as with some of the shows that have been mentioned. But when an orchestrator can create a fantastic Overture from lesser material, that's truly an achievement. Robert Ginzler and Sid Ramin, who did the orchestrations for Gypsy, later collaborated on Wildcat. The Wildcat score has its peaks and valleys, but that Overture starts like a house on fire and never lets up. No matter the quality of the show that followed, the Wildcat Overture sounds like it belongs to a hit.
Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.

If it's a title song I love "9 to 5"

Phantom Of The Opera and Man Of La Mancha. Of course, if Les Mis had an overture than I'm certain that I would've picked that one to.

CANDIDE SWEET CHARITY ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY
GYPSY FINIAN'S RAINBOW MAME MAN OF LA MANCHA
As for an opening song, I'd have to say that I've never heard/seen anything bring down a house like the Opening Sequence of TITANIC (at the second preview performance in 1997, no less). The rest of the show was still problematic... but those first 12 minutes or so were unlike anything I'd experienced.

I loathed the show but the opening number of Tarzan was so exciting. And then it went downhill from there...

The Prelude to Next to Normal gives me chills. I absolutely adore it, but I wish it was longer.
