re: Favourite Sets

Starlight Express - German Production

While some prefer the more nightmarish look of the Apollo Vic set, I prefer this edition which was inspired by the Broadway edition but reworked for a custom built theatre.

I think everybody here can probably guess what this is. Apologies for using a really low end youtube clip for the source (hence the clock in the corner) but it's honestly a more accurate representation of the set than anything in the programmes. I've also linked to the video itself so those who wish to can see it in action.
Set goodies start at 0:48 and are interspersed thereafter.

{squees madly in glee at exedore's offering} Well I think I know what I'm going to be listening to all night.

For set, LOTR definitely wins (and it was an awesome show in every other way as well! <3)

"Well I think I know what I'm going to be listening to all night."

FWIW, the two songs they play at the beginning are the opening riffs from "Born to Rock 'n' Roll" and "We're the UFO" which sounded so much better in its live arrangement than on the album.

re: Favourite Sets

I actually think Born to Rock n Roll is a pretty fabby song...gave me real hope for the show, and then I read the script....

Incidentally, on the subject of Time, I'm currently playing a hippie in the chorus of a panto, and we have our little in character conversations in the background So at one point I started waffling to the person beside me saying "It's all about beauty truth love freedom peace!" Unfortunately, there was no look of recognition at my random musical allusions re: Favourite Sets

"TheGreenBean, thanks ever so much for the Cats photos..
I have been looking for images of the London set for YEARS!
I don't suppose you have any more.. x"

Many more can be found on a friend's site: www.bellesdomain.co.uk
Just go to Cats>Fan Meets>The morning after
A large amount of amazing pictures were taken by fans who were allowed onstage on the morning of 12th May 2002 - the day after Cats closed, just before the set was removed.
Sorry to go off topic, but did you see Cats in London? I only became a fan of the show a month or two after it closed there (typical), and would kill for a revival in that theatre!

re: Favourite Sets

Thanks :)
And yes, i did, in the year 2000.. and the set is just a blur in my memory now!
re: Favourite Sets
And i too, would LOVE a revival of Cats..

re: Favourite Sets

I know it's not a UK production but the sets for Roma theatre's non-replica production of Phantom of the Opera were amazing. Roma is a polish musical theatre company in Warsaw that translate and present non-replica shows every year.

I was lucky enough to see the show twice when i was in poland and it was amazing. The sets where HUGE!!! The transitions weren't as slick and flowing as the original production design but it was cool to see a show that soo many people have seen worldwide presented in a new way. the show itself tended to lean towards the movie more than the original book but the sets took a whole new approach. one of the coolest touches i thought was that they mixed the physical sets with full stage projections seamlessly and the whole space was just so full.

o and even though their staircase was like twice the size of the original, they didn't use manequines! thankfully, because i've always found that part a little odd.

not entirely sure how to post photos sorry. but if you check out this forum site and scroll down a bit you can see everything:

enjoy :)

I Loved the imagine this sent both in plymouth and in the west end i think it was a production that was missunderstood if im using the right word ! i spoke to a member of the cast after the show and she thinks the critics only reviewd the holocaust aspect ! thats down to tyour own veiw but both sets are fantastic ! with a fantastic show i thought

One of my favourite sets, this is a show where the lighting played as much of a role as the physical set pieces and they made extensive use of audience targeted projection (the matrix screens in the top image projected pretty far out towards the stalls) and all but the best photos fail to do it justice.

I'd *LOVE* to put this show on as a small fringe show as the large (think Broadway scale) original production didn't capture the camp or the tongue in cheek of the original comics which the script feverishly (and rightly) adhered to.

And Dave Stewart's music? Amazing.

David Gallo's Design's for Beauty and the Beast were stunning. Go onto www.davidgallo.com then protfolio, then International Productions. Sorry about not being able to post images but I can't find pictures that show it off anywhere on Goggle, also its a flash site so I can't save the photos. Enjoy if you take a look though :)

re: Favourite Sets

I have noted the section on the 'post a response' for optional image, if I try to copy and paste something from Google images for example nothing happens. So what ever happens for you, might not happen for me.

Answer me this please, is it possible to copy a image from Google images and be able to paste into Broadway world?

re: Favourite Sets

You need the actual image link, not the site link from GIS.

re: Favourite Sets

Just testing if my image come out, on how exedore suggested.

re: Favourite Sets

Tried copying the website details under the image on Google images, then pasting onto the optional image section, this did not work. help!!!!!

re: Favourite Sets

find an image on google, click it so it comes up big, like you normally do. Then right click, and go to properties. Cpy the URL (should end in .jpp or something like that!) and past it into the optional image space. thats what instructions Scripps gave to me, and its worked for me re: Favourite Sets
