"In her first significant leading role on the big screen, Fergie (Stacy Ann Ferguson) of the Black Eyed Peas has been cast as one of the final puzzle pieces in Rob Marshall’s ensemble musical, “Nine” for The Weinstein Company, Access Hollywood has learned exclusively. The casting will be announced Friday.
While there are several female leads in the film, including Academy Award winners Kate Hudson (announced Wednesday), Nicole Kidman, Sophia Loren and Marion Cotillard, as well as Academy Award nominee Penelope Cruz, Fergie’s role will be significant."

Not sure how true this is, since Access Hollywood was first to report it (and they make a huge error, calling Kate Hudson an Oscar winner, which she ain't).

What? Why? Can she act? Or sing?
I hate Fergie, but she was....not bad in PLANET TERROR. And, unlike the rest of the cast, she looks somewhat Italian.
But still: Weinstein also produced PLANET TERROR. She probably blew him.
well, girl certainly can sing. not sure about the acting dept. but this is intriguing news. Before everyone gets in a huff, remember how well Mya's casting in "Chicago" turned out, after all the complaining....
I actually think that she would be a good Saraghina.
Not sure how I feel about this, but I imagine if true, it's for Saraghina.
We've yet to hear of anyone else cast who would be playing that role and while I wouldn't have jumped to Fergie over other actresses who could take on this role, I can see her in it.

Little known Fergie fact:
She provided the voice of Sally Brown for a couple of the Charlie Brown TV specials in the 1990's.
I'm liking this film less and less as time goes on...
Well, she did get her start in television as a kid. I used to watch Kids Incorporated RELIGIOUSLY in the early 80s and she was an original cast member (first seven seasons, or something like that) so it's not as though she's coming out of NOwhere.
I thought this was about Sarah Ferguson ...
She's probably a better singer than pretty much everyone else in the cast.
She can sing I heard her live. But can she act?
This ain't Saraghina...
Salene - me too. I'm SO RELIEVED it's not. XD
Rigazzi - I loved Kids Incorporated too - I even have an old album somewhere. I was shocked when I found out who little Stacey grew up to be! :)
I never really liked her "act." That said, she certainly has the chops. What a cast of beauties. I personally don't see a problem with her acting. It's not like Niki Blonski or Jennifer Hudson studied years of acting or were prepared for those roles. I think the singing is a bigger problem but that can always be "fixed" in the booth. (see Sweeney or a Little Night Music).
It has to be for either Saraghina or Stephanie Necrophorus. And she obviously has more singing experience than any other person in the cast.
I was hoping for a more robust figure for Saraghina, a Sara Ramirez or Aida Turturro type.
Perhaps she will be playing Stephanie Necrophorus, or just a different role, after all Kate Hudson is playing a new character.
JasonF, I love that I'm not alone in my childhood obsession with Kids, Inc! I SWORE I'd be on that show at some point, playing Stacy's and Renee's brother. HA! And I actually was a big fan of the group Wild Orchid (with Stacy and Renee) a good ten years ago or so.
Indeed, WHO KNEW!?

wait whaaaaat? i mean i liked her as a member of the black eyed peas and as a hip-hop &b singer but not in a musical film! what's happening to this world...
Why don't they release the names of the characters?
I've yet to see any press release that actually mentions what roles Kidman and Dench will be playing. I mean, there are obvious assumptions. But why so secretive?
And now this. All we know is Fergie's role is "significant." Can we get a name please?
