What the H E double hockey sticks is she wearing in that picture?
When I first heard that she was going to be in it, I cringed, as it seems like this movie is starting to turn more and more into a horrible idea.
But then I thought more about it and I probably could accept Fergie as Saraghina. I don't really think that character has to be voluptuous, and if she isn't, I can visualize Fergie there.
And she does have the most "Mediterranean" look about her (I've given up on them actually casting people who look Italian, seeing as though most of the cast is pasty white with the exception of Ms. Cruz)
Since when is Kate Hudson an "Academy Award Winner"?
Oy. Why?
But oddly enough, the first role that I thought of when I saw the news item was not Saraghina but Our Lady of the Spa. Yes, it's not as significant as Saraghina, but it suits her best.
They need to make a real announcement, and fast.
No one on these boards are ever optimistic when things like this are announced. I distinctly remember a hefty group of people flipping out when Jennifer Hudson was announced to be Effie and the rest of the DREAMGIRLS cast was announced. A lot of people were pissed off with the casting choices and even the weakest link in the cast, Beyonce, wasn't THAT bad. Give Fergie a chance...she's an okay actress and a better singer than a majority of this cast.

In terms of Saraghina, I was just taking note of the original Fellini film, 8 1/2.
I mean, if they're looking to hire a big name pop star...this makes complete sense to me. Yes? No? Anyone?
Seemed just the slightest bit uncanny to me and I couldn't resist.
I don't get the whole Fergie thing. I mean on Big Girls Don't Cry she sounds good, so she can obviously sing. But her whole "look" to me is contrived and out of date. I don't see what Josh Dumel sees in her.

Here's the official announcement of Fergie as "Saraghina":

At least they've finally told the public which character one of the added actresses is playing. Obviously, we can assume some things, but as others have pointed out, no mention of Kidman or Dench's characters and the stuff about Hudson's seems vague.
I never would have seen this coming! Fergie as Saraghina?
He really is doing his own thing with the movie and the characters... I'm still hoping for the best.
Besty, I was interested in reading what you had to say about this... but you were vague so I'm reading between the lines :-p
You posted on another thread that Marshall is really packing the film with as many long-legged female beauties as possible. This piece of casting seems to really back up the idea that he is going for the 18-35 straight male population. Let's see how it works out.
To be fair, she actually does have an Italian look to her, but I don't really see her in the role. No Sara Ramirez
So what other roles are yet to be cast? Lady of the Spa and Stephanie Necrophorus, I believe, and only if the roles survived the adaptation which I am heavily doubting. I suppose Mama Maddelena doesn't exist in this version(can't imagine Marshall not cutting "Germans at the Spa).
"Her last name is Ferguson."
I KNEW that! I just meant I don't get why she's so popular.
I could be wrong, but isn't there also La Fleur left to cast? So that would make Liliane, Lady of the Spa and Stephanie Necrophorus.
-"I could be wrong, but isn't there also La Fleur left to cast?"
It has yet to be clearly stated in any of the press releases, but it has been assumed that Judi Dench's role is Liliane La Fleur.

We cannot assume that NINE will have anything to do with 8 1/2
8 1/2 is a magnificent work of art by one of the greatest visionary filmmakers. NINE is a lame dumbed down musical trivialization of it. Fellini didn't even want his name on the posters.
So they cast Fergie as an Italian prostitute. Why not?
Here is Eddra Gale, the original La Saraghina in Federico Fellini's 1963 masterpiece "8 1/2":
