I agree, and think this is probably inevitable. I was thinking about this the other day. So many great scenes and moments that would make great musical numbers.
ooooh it would. holy crap.

It probably is inevitable, and it could work. It would also be somewhat interesting to have Matthew Broderick in it, but not as Ferris... maybe the principal?
heh, and alan ruck has been on bway...maybe he could be the father
timote, you took the words out of my mouth: Broderick would be GREAT as Ed Rooney!!
And I love the idea of Ruck as the clueless dad.
Who would be the embittered Jennifer Grey character? Marisa Jaret Winokur?
I've thought this for a few months now.
Like so many other movie projects, a musical adaptation is apparently already in the works...
hehe bobbybubby agrees. Good thing my bf chooses mates based on personality, hehe.
I doubt Broderick would take such a role, in a movie he may not always want to be remembered for.
Hard to think of an age appropriate Ferris though. None of the current crop of young leading musical men would stack up.

Gavin Creel would do the reading and then they'd get some tv actor to do it on Broadway.

YOu read my mind MB. The Weisslers are producing it and Bud Bundy is going to be Ferris.
Cheyenne doesn't have the natural comic chops for the role.
Exactly bustinlose, Broderick wouldn't touch the musical version of Ferris with a 10 foot pole.

Somebody has got to stop Barry and Fran before they try to cast Tommy Tune as Ed Rooney.
What about John Tartaglia? I think he'd be pretty perfect in the role.
It's an intriguing idea, to be sure :)
The thing is, the trend of making movies into musicals is getting ridiculous. There's been this falling out of actually taking risks and writing new shows - most things coming out these days are revivals or movies made into musicals. We need some good original writing!
I agree it could work and its a very intriguing idea but I'm one of those people who is very skeptical about any of the great 80s films being touched. (Ferris Beuller, AIB, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, Back to the Future etc.) Plus the whole movie-to-musical thing is really getting a bit ridiculous but still...it could definitly work as a musical.
