Finally! After years of waiting... CBS finally did it! They are airing this year's Tony Awards in HD and it looks FABULOUS!
Words can't describe how electrifying it looks (and sounds) on my 60" widescreen Sony HD-TV.
For those who don't have a widescreen HD-TV, I took some photos with my iPhone (hence the quality of the photos) so you can see how sensational the Tony Awards looks in widescreen:
I saw it on 1080p HD and it sounded and looked awesome. Every wrinkle, zit and rash...plus I could hear every footstep and people talking and burping in the audience while the show was going on
Oh, the sound was incredible in high def! All the feet hitting the floor the crackling mics, the backstage chatter, the crappy mixing. A- Fing-Mazing for a "professional" live telecast!
Those Blocked: SueStorm. N2N Nate. Good riddence to stupid! Rad-Z, shill begone!
In 5.1 Surround it was distractingly delicious. Voices and noises were coming at you from EVERYWHERE. When the sound wasn't working on the mics on the front channels (Elton John and GUYS AND DOLLS most notably), the sound was coming in clear from the rear channels. It was a hot mess but gave it a certain 'live' added element. Especially all those onstage comments from the presenters.
Hopefully they keep it up for next year's Tony Awards.
There were tons of mic issues that took away from my enjoyment of the show. Still, very nice to finally see it in HD. And I just realized how much the Shrek castle backdrop looks like Super Mario Bros.
