Hairspray has been a show I have wanted to see since it opened but I just never got around to it, when I was finally about to get tickets they announced the upcoming movie and I decided to just wait for the movie. The movie just made me want to see the show even more.
I did the lotto yesterday (10/19)... everybody won. I was in Row A, Seat 2.
I had very high expectations for the show, but wasn't sure what to expect after reading the "CLOSE HAIRSPRAY NOW PLEASE" thread. Well, I loved it and I'm sad that it's closing.
I'm not gonna go into everyone, but the cast...
Marissa Perry as Tracy was very believable. She has such a beautiful voice and is just so fun to watch.
George Wendt as Edna... I'm sorry to his fans but he didn't do anything for me. He had a few good lines, but honestly if he wasn't dressed as a woman I would not remember his performance.
Charlotte Crossley as Motormouth Maybelle was phenomenal, I really wish she would have gotten more stage time.
Kate Loprest as Amber Von Tussle was amazing, I really can't describe it. I'm not crazy about the character of Amber but Kate rocked.
Susan Mosher as Prudy Pignleton was hilarious, her line delivery was great. There was one point where she had to walk in front of me and my row, I didn't touch her but when she was in front of me she turned around and said "Young man, excuse me..." and added some hilarious ad libs.
Constantine Rousouli as Link Larkin was really good. He really just was Link, even when he came out the stage door.
Stage door...
Every one came out (and took pictures) except for George Wendt and Charlotte Crossley.
Quick stage door story...
Me: Marissa, you were AMAZING!
Marissa Perry: Oh, thank you!
Me: Your welcome. Can you sign my playbill?
Marissa: Sure
Me: Thanks, can I take a picture with you too please?
Marissa: No.
Pause
Marissa: *laughs* Wouldn't it be funny if I was that much of a bitch? Of course you can!
I will be going to see Hairspray before it closes primarily to see Constantine, who I saw on tour in AC a while back. His charm just explodes on stage and I'm so glad he got this opportunity. I am looking forward to seeing him in other shows.

Great Marissa story! Glad you liked it! If you get a chance, seriously try to come back and see it with Harvey as Edna before it closes. I am. I promise you you'll love it even more.
I didn't much like Geroge Wendt, either. It seemed like he had one expression - grumpy - through the entire show.

When I saw the show Brooke Engen was playing Prudy and when she was walking in front of the audience she was saying "excuse me excuse me" until she got to the last guy in the row. She turned around and said "MOVE IT" to him then rubbed his bald head...LOL. He turned beet red.
Great SD story with Marisa.
I know this is going to start trouble... but has there REALLY been a good Edna since Harvey?
Ok, go...
Blake was very good!
I also very much enjoyed John Pinette. I saw him when he did the tour.
I think Blake Hammond, John Pinette, and Paul Vogt were all great Edna successors.
Marissa is hilarious!
