First Preview: "Barefoot in the Park"#0
Posted: 1/24/06 at 11:56pmI thought it was great. Patrick Wilson was hilarious and Amanda Peet was absolutely perfect. Jill Clayburgh seemed to have gotten the most laughs, but I think Tony Roberts was the greatest part of the play. Loved the set with the cieling (or lack thereof), too. And the 60's music! (Was it just my imagination, or did about 50% of the audience sing "Downtown" as it played?) Saw Neil Simon sitting in probably about the 7 or 8th row center, on the isle. After the show we got to see Tony Roberts and Amanda Peet leave the theater. Roberts signed a few before hopping in his car, and seemed nice, but Amanda Peet seemed exhausted and almost frightened. She was asked to pose for pictures and, understandably, she just went on signing for others as people took photos. Then Patrick Wilson came out. He was such a nice guy, posed with about 5 insane, loud middle-aged women. He was there for so long; smiling, joking, signing. Overall a great show and a great experience. Anyone else at the Cort tonight?

Posted: 1/25/06 at 12:47amExcellent show. Amanda Peet and Partick Wilson were amazing. They complimented each other so well. The set was very nice. The first act of the show got slow towards the end of act 1. There was a lot of down time with no action. Tony Roberts was perfect and Jill Clayburgh got a big entrance applause and many laughs although I personally feel that she was the weakest of the four. While she was very good I think she acted to much for the laughs. Adam Sietz is on stage for a total of about 3 minutes but he was hysterical! Perfect for the role. The second act was very good and didn’t need any changing. During each scene change they brought down the curtains with colorful flowers and played catchy music. I don’t know if this was only because they haven’t worked out the scene changes yet, but I think they should keep it in the show. The audience was singing along, which is something you don’t often hear at a play. At the end everyone got a huge applause, but they took bows in pairs: Sietz & Walker, Clayburgh & Robertts, Peet & Wilson. I think they should allow each to take their own bows. I saw Scott Elliot walk into the audience before the show (which started 10 minutes late) so I know he was there taking notes. I missed Neil Simon. Afterwards Roberts came out quick and signed for a few people be fore getting into his car. Amanda Peet came out and seemed surprised that there people waiting for her. She gave a “thanks” wave and started walking to her car when people crowed in around her and she signed for most people but didn’t take photos or chat. But she did look dead tired. Then they brought out barricades for Patrick Wilson who stayed for about 10 minutes. Signing and talking to everyone. He took about 14 photos with the same lady who had about 9 different cameras. (As an aside the Security guy who was there was the nicest Ive ever seen at a theatre. He talked to everyone and took photos for people and helped Amanda Peet into her car. He was clueless to the play and who the actors were but he was a very nice man) Lastly Jill came out there were only a few people left so she signed and took photos before leaving. Over all it was a very good show. I can see where it needs slight improvements in act 1 before opening but nothing major (other than the scene changes which I don’t know if they were intentional or not). Excellent cast and direction. Any seat in the house would be fine to see everything. From the Balcony you only see the lower half of the people when their on the roof but its fine. Also from a seat on the left you can look into the bathroom and bedroom which might be a bonus (I was center so I couldn’t see into them, but you don’t miss a thing) This show is Defiantly a must see!

Thank you soooo much for the feedback about the first night of previews. It sounds like it's going to be a fabulous production and I can't wait to see it.
NOTE: "Then Patrick Wilson came out. He was such a nice guy, posed with about 5 insane, loud middle-aged women. He was there for so long; smiling, joking, signing."
For the record, in case anyone was wondering, I was NOT there last night... :)
NOTE: Barricades were set up before Mister Wilson came up. How high would you say they were... "just wondering"

Wife and I were also there lats night - enjoyable show, great cast!
Was a little slow at times, but it picked up and had great laughs - plus excellent choice of music that played - lots of people singing along....
Really liked the set also, we were sitting in Row F center orch which seemed like perfect seats. The first two rows look like bad choices (unless you are an NBA player) since the stage is raised pretty high.
Amanda Peet did a bunch of changing onstage - another plus!
Patrick Wilson did some changing too, ladies probably enjoyed that more...
I'd list this one as a must see! (Didn't have same opinion on "A Touch of a Poet" though)

Oh - there was no standing O at the first curtain call (although I thought they deserved it - but I'm not going to be the first to stand though), but it did happen when the curtain was raised the second time.....
Amanda Peets Broadway debut! Great job, lots of energy by her! Great job by all!

I was there last night as well. The show was fantastic!!!!!!!!! A must see. Amanda was almost frightened when she came out of the stage door. I'm sure she'll flip when there's a full house and theyall swamp her. The show was amazing though. Patrick Wilson is super nice. Although I wasn't one of the insane group at the stage door, I did get a picture and an autograph! He's even better looking in person. Jill was very nice was vey tired. Tony Roberts was hysterical as well.
The show was a bit slow at times, but it was the first preview. I loved the music duing scene changes. The sets were very nice. (Patrick Wilson has a nice set too, if you get my drift...) The show was very, very funny! I loved it!
