Answering a question from ghostlight2...I saw Andy Taylor and Bob Amaral on tour in The Producers last spring. While they were excellent, I really enjoyed Stuart Marland and Rich Affanato (Roger and Carmen). I'm still laughing 10 months later. (I didn't remember the names, I had to look them up.)
For all of you who have given your opinion as to what I shall see, I'm leaning toward AvenueQ and Spamalot. I hadn't given Spamalot much consideration before today, but it looks like it would be a very fun show. Who knows, I may have to add a matinee to my schedule. Keep the opinions coming. Thanks.

Wicked-- Definitely! You'll defy gravity.
senortenor - once again...do people not read? They have tickets to see Wicked (although I agree with you 100%) I'd recommend Avenue Q as everyone else has. Have fun!

Ok. . . allow me to give you you good answer here. (no offense people) Because you ALREADY HAVE TICKETS TO WICKED AND HAIRSPRAY, I won't reccomend those.
Since you alreay have tickets to a new show, you should see one of the old standbys. Even if you have seen the touring production, I think you should go see Beauty and the Beast. The broadway virsion of Beauty and the Beast is one of the greatest things I've ever seen. I had seen the touring production 3 times before I saw it on broadway, and that one version put everything else to shame.
If you are a theater lover (which you obviously are) and seem to have good taste (I hated Kiss Me Kate as well), then you will love beauty and the beast. If you can get urself into a romantic story like AIDA, then you will LOVE this show. Even if you've seen the movie, you have no idea what you are missing. It's unbelieveable. Plus its been around forever and who knows how long it will last. You have your whole life to see avenue Q! Don't pass up this chance to see this AMAZING production.
(Of course thats just my opinion, do what you really want)
OK folks, I've narrowed it down to three. Final thoughts?
Avenue Q
Spamalot
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

avenue q

Avenue Q! If you want to get a taste of real classic theater go see Beauty and the Beast, Fiddler, or Phantom. Spamalot and La Cage are sounding awesome too. Welcome to the boards...:)

I would recommend something like BEAUTY AND THE BEAST or THE LION KING, if you're still introducing yourself to Broadway. You might not want to see something TOO off-the-wall because you might be immediately turned off to Broadway. But if you ease yourself in with some solid, quality, classic productions, you're likely to return. I'm glad that you have tickets to WICKED and HAIRSPRAY... good choices!
I would advise against LITTLE WOMEN and BROOKLYN. Oh, and if you like that crap by ABBA, go see MAMMA MIA. I hate ABBA, so I personally won't recommend it, but some people like that Swedish sh!t. :) Have fun!!

Of the 3 you've narrowed it down to-I'd have to say Spamalot, hands down-general word of mouth is spectacular(but good luck getting tickets).Ave Q is a cute little show, but given your spoken preferences,I think it might be a little spare for your tastes.I wouldn't consider Dirty Rotten Scoundrels-too iffy.Have fun!
Well, since you've seen or are going to see some of the shows I'd suggest like Rent and Hairspray, I also cast my vote to AVENUE Q if you want something smart, witty, energetic and funny. Now, if you want sheer spectacle and awe-inspiring visuals with nice music and a familiar story, nothing beats THE LION KING ! Have fun, whatever you choose !
Take care

Avenue Q is a great choice, but who knows how good John Tartaglia's replacement will be. Also it's very raunchy so you would have to like that twisted humor. Spam-a-lot sounds great, if you like Holy Grail. If you don't like Holy Grail then dont see it. I suggest Dirty Rotten Scoundrels because it'll be really new and exciting. I've seen a video of them in rehearsals at broadway.com and it looks hilarious and sounds great. John Lithgow and Joanna Gleason have been comedic greats on screen for years and Norbert Leo Butz and Sheri Rene Scott are amzing broadway talents, so this is a can't miss show. Not only that but then you can let us know if it's worth seeing.
