Trevor Nunn is doing it at The Haymarket in his season in 2011. Nunn and Sondheim have been discussing it during his time in the UK and time with Night Music.

Maria Friedman looks certain to star as Sally, Robert Lindsay is being chased to play Buddy and Lesley Garret to play Heidi. A spy of mine also told me Nunn and Sondheim are trying persuade Bernadette Peters to make her UK debut as Phyllis...

All sounds very exciting. I hope Rosie Ashe is involved as I think she'd make a terrific Stella

I thought Robert Lindsay was tipped to play the lead role in 'Shrek' next year.

Robert Lindsay, a fabulous legit actor, at 62, wouldn't be playing Shrek.

Carlotta? SIAN PHILLIPS ! Her "I'm Still Here" would be stunning.

I know she may be just too old now - though she's only a few years older than Polly Bergen was when she played Carlotta in the 2001 Broadway revival - and Bergen is the best Carlotta I've ever seen.

I don't know what the budget will be, but quite sizable I imagine. If they get the cast they want, it'll do good buisness I image and could transfer to Broadway.

I thought Maria Friedman was on record as saying she doesn't want to do an 8 shows a week commitment any more? Mind you for Sondheim, she might change her mind

Love the idea of Bernadette Peters making her West End debut. Really wish that ot be true.

Can quite see Philip Quast in the cast, Robert Lindsay too.

Sian Phillips would be fantastic casting.

Can't wait for this one

Prior to the outstanding Sondheim Prom, Maria was interviewed on BBC's Breakfast news and said that she was due to play Sally on Broadway next year!

Could this be the Haymarket London production transferring or is it scheduled to open on Broadway next year anyway?

I heard Friedman was cast as Sally in the Kennedy Center production, which I'm sure could go to Broadway should reviews warrant it. She may have been referring to that.

I second Phillip Quast. He is the same age as Ben (53). He would be perfect! Anyone knows when his run in Mary Poppins ends?

After what i head on BBC3 the other night, Friedman couldn't sing it one show a week, let alone 8. It is not within her capabilities.Gosh, what a shocking thought i cannot imagine Sondheim or trevor would sanction her casting after the noises she emitted at the proms. Thankyou

I think maybe you heard a different concert to me lol. Maria Freidman was nothing short of fantastic in every song she performed. She would be an incredible Sally.

Chrissydee we often disagree, but I'm with you 100% on the Joanna Riding appeal.

Mama- Linda Baron- you cheat, surely! You know she did the Shaftesbury production as Stella!

As for Auntie Maria- God nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

After all these years, she still stands like a duck! Somebody tell her, please!
