I am more convinced than ever that the finale of the song was alerted because of Regine.
Yes Phyliss, they "alerted" her and she said uh uh.
I bet Lavin was in on the plot also

I don't really understand your comment? Regine was such a disaster during "Ah, Paris!" I assumed that they changed the ending because there was no way she was going to come in on time for those "ah-ah-ah-ah"s, which would then throw off the other three singers.
Also, it's two Ls, one S.
I also think Lavin wanted a big solo ending to belt out alone.

Really? I never thought for a second it was about any actor's demands, I just assumed it was out of necessity.
"alerted" to tell one of something coming...
Sorry 'bout the Ls ans S.
We may be giving Schaefer too muh credit.
It's funny cause the night I saw the show we went for a drink across the street at the watergate Bar with cast and company. Regine sang and was completely letter perfect. well, in French anyway.

It's okay, baby. JUST DON'T DO IT AGAIN!
I sure wish I could find some rich old geezer (or rich young hottie) to finance my trip out to see this. It just kills me that I'm going to miss it.
Just wait a few weeks and a simple google search will let you watch it.
Chi Chi; define Geezer.
I may be high but the picture (which must be from D.C,) of Bernie outside the Marquee on 46th St. from WHO'S THAT WOMAN? makes her dress seem longer(and more appropriate).

I would venture a guess it was a Lavin wanting a solo/Regine not being able to handle it combo situation, as previously suggested. Either way, poor Susan Watson!
The lovely Susan Watson,
so glad she's back on the Bway, is the Sole Survivor.

I know for a fact, through friends on the creative team, that the ending was altered solely because Regine simply couldn't get through it.
