I re-watched my DVD the other and wanted to post about it! I think we are so lucky that this was preserved in a documentary! It's just so cool to watch.
Anyways, Don't you love how mean Elaine Stritch comes across at the beginning when she is talking about moving her bag for the camera man!
No! We aren't that lucky! They should have released the whole damn concet instead of clips. I'd frankly rather that whole documentary be the dvd "extra feature"!

What's to love about one human being mean to another?
I gave up after watching "I'm Still Here" being chopped to shreds
Call me ungrateful, but I cannot stand watching this documentary. Yes, we should be glad that some of it was preserved but the way it was edited is preposterous, if you ask me. When I saw "Waiting Around for the Girls Upstairs" was completely cut and "In Buddy's Eyes" only had the introductory version and skipped to the end, I just gave up. With so many great fully-staged Sondheim shows available on DVD, it is sad that we have such a mediocre Follies. The Encores! production should be filmed and be given a commercial release.
I will second that. If that happened, the one I have now would sleep with the fishes
I definitely wish they showed us the full concert. I would've taken that over the documentary.

The complete footage must exist in some vault somewhere. Why couldn't the producers release a DVD of the concert in its entirety? Let's start a campaign!
Burnett's I'm Still Here is just heart-breaking!
I love her performance of that song!
Or do you mean the choppy editing?

I have this taped off of Bravo/A&E/PBS...one of the three, and while I'm fascinated by the behind the scenes stuff, I'd like to have seen the full show. Things like that deprive those who can't make it to see it. (I'm sorry, I wasn't alive yet, sue me).
She was good (Burnett). It was the editing that absolutely bit it
Well I do wish the full concert was there too, but I like the behind-the-scenes stuff really well too. It's just cool to see what it was like.

I felt she wasn't suitable, but not because of her age. She was older than Yvonne DeCarlo was when she played Carlotta.

I absolutely loved this DVD Concert version, even in its dismembered state. I do wish, however, that the entire thing was preserved, but Elaine Stritch's comments and performance of "Broadway Baby" are priceless.
"The cameraman asked me to move the bag. I thought he was referring to me."
Not mean, just fabulous.
