Favorite recording: Original Broadway Cast

Least Favorite Recording: London Cast

Favorite book song: The Road You Didn't Take

Favorite pastiche song: Losing My Mind

Phyllis or Sally: Sally- I agree with Jewish Boy. It's a much harder role.

Some have said (and I agree) that the show is really a study of the character Ben. All three of the other leads have a strong connection to him while lacking a conection to each other. Is this valid: Yup! It's all about Ben

Were "The Team" (Sondheim, Prince, Goldman and Bennett) kidding themselves with the whole ghost concept? Not at all. I think the ghost concept is AMAZING. It was and is a very vital part of Follies, being able to let the audience "look back".

Favorite version of "Losing My Mind": No one will EVER touch Dorothy Collins!

Favorite version of "Broadway Baby": Ethel, by FAR!

"I'm Still Here": Yvonne de Carlo

"Could I Leave You?": Alexis Smith

Have you heard the OBC opening night soundboard recording?: OMG no... and Follies being my favorite show of all time! Could someone *please* PM me with some info on it? Thank you! /hug

What did you think N/A (sob)

You favorite...

Ben? John McMartin

Were you aware that when the show started production only 18 and a half minutes of the score were finished? Yes

I'm confused. Several people have responded affirmatively to the question "Were you aware that when the show started production only 18 and a half minutes of the score were finished?"

Am I misunderstanding what is meant by "when the show started production" and it doesn't mean when the show started rehearsals?

Were you aware that when the show started production only 18 and a half minutes of the score were finished? YES, read the book

"It does what a musical is supposed to do; it takes you to another world. And it gives you a little tune to carry in your head. Something to take you away from the dreary horrors of the real world. A little something for when you're feeling blue. You know?"

I have to amend what I wrote earlier because I'd forgotten to include "You're Gonna Love Tomorrow / Love Will See Us Through" in the list of songs not written before rehearsals started, although a look at Everything Was Possible reminds me that "You're Gonna Love Tomorrow" was completed before rehearsals started, though barely, just the day before. And I'd completely forgotten that "The Right Girl" was written after rehearsals started.

But as far as I can tell, everything else in the final Broadway version of the score was already written when rehearsals started (except for the songs I listed earlier), even "Bolero D'Amour," which was taken from an unused song titled "Let's Get Away," a fact that isn't mentioned in Everything Was Possible.

So I remain confused about this and wish someone could clear it up for me. If it says somewhere in Everything Was Possible, which I've read twice, that only eighteen-and-a-half minutes of the score was written when show went into production, I don't remember it and I'm not finding it.

And unless I'm really missing something or have forgotten or misunderstood something, the book seems to indicate that only the songs I've mentioned were not yet written when rehearsals started (not counting, of course, "Uptown, Downtown," and the parts of "Foxtrot" not yet written, neither of which would be in the show that opened on Broadway).

So I would be truly grateful if someone could help me out on this. If I'm missing knowing something I should know, I'd like to find about it. Updated On: 11/22/06 at 12:58 AM
