Posted: 3/16/06 at 9:13pmI know there won't be any movie of the WIW anytime soon or maybe never! but i was just wondering if there was a movie of this musical, who would play the leads? I was thinking Catherine Zeta Jones is probably the only bankable star who could play Marian (she is one of the few Hollywood stars that can sing) what about the rest of the cast?

i thought about Hugh as Walter...but im sorry...he is not that young or that cute, IMO , and maybe Emmy as Laura...that is a good one...she needs some drama lessons though! LoL
Ewan Mc Gregor wouldn't make a good Walter either...he can sing ...but still...i dunno.

Posted: 3/16/06 at 9:50pmThere's actually a movie of WIW, but it's not a musical. It's got simon Callow as Fosco.

And a darn good film of the story it is, too.

Posted: 3/16/06 at 10:14pmDid you really think it was that good? I enjoyed it, but found some of it to be sort of dull (I love the book).

dancingthrulife04: Yes, I know what film version you are talking about. I thought it was really good the first time around, but then it lost some spunk the second time. I also love the book. If anyone wants to talk with me about it, then please PM me.
I miss the musical so much...

I didn't actually get to see the musical. I love the cast recording, though.
As far as a musical version of the film goes, I would try to get as much of the OBC as possible.

I agree about the OBC statement. I would love to see if Emmy could pull it off as Laura. I actually thought she did a great job in the PHANTOM movie. And we could always bleach her hair to make it blonde...
Here;s my cast list:
Marian Halcombe: Catherine Zeta Jones or Idina Menzel (Yes, you read that last one right.)
Walter Hartright: Anybody's call
Sir Percival Glyde: Anyone's call
Laura Fairlie: Emmy Rossum
Count Fosco: Micheal Crawford
Mr. Fairlie: Paul Newman

Ok, my cast list:
Marian: Alice Ripley
Laura: Kelli O'Hara
Walter: Don't know yet
Percival: Don't know
Count Fosco: Simon Callow, because I'd love ot hear him sing the role. Based on the film, he can definitely handle the acting.

"Count Fosco: Simon Callow, because I'd love ot hear him sing the role. Based on the film, he can definitely handle the acting. "
He played the role in the London Production, but, as I understand it, he didn't really sing the role, but more "spoke-sang" the lyrics.

Posted: 3/17/06 at 8:33amEmmy Rossum needs tons of vocal and acting training before she can handle Laura. I was not a fan of hers in Phantom at all. Anne Hathaway played Laura in the workshop of WIW, so she could probably do it.

Posted: 3/17/06 at 8:40amThe novel is terrific, and the BBC film does a good job of distilling it. I've seen it twice and it held up for me.

Lisa Brescia as Marian!!!!! That would be soooo cool!!!
Jennifer Hope Wills as Laura would be awesome too!
But if it was "hollywood casted" then Catherine would make a great Marian and I don't know about Laura...
EDIT : Emmy as Laura would be good...

Posted: 3/17/06 at 9:47amI agree with EganFan2, I don't think Emmy Rossum could handle the role. (At least she certainly couldn't handle the role of Christine in Phantom of the Opera.)

Marian: CZJ
Laura: Anne Hathaway
Anne: Neve Cambell or Emmy Rossum (her and Anne could pass i think)
Walter: Adam Brazier
Glyde: Heath Ledger ( if he cans sing)
Count Fosco: Michael Ball
re: For 'The Woman in White' fans only#24
Posted: 3/17/06 at 10:49amMB and Adam Brazier would definately be good! But Emmy as Anne? Anne such a tormented character and I don't think Emmy could pull it off...her voice is too sweet.
