Posted: 9/13/04 at 6:54pmI saw the second act of Wonderful Town Sunday. Honestly, I liked the understudy better than Donna Murphy. She is very good, and the audience really loved her.

Posted: 9/13/04 at 7:10pmMuggleston is good but I didn't think she even came close to Donna.

Posted: 9/13/04 at 10:28pmoh man. I was not feeling Linda when I went at all. Unfortunatly her voice was totally off and she seemed really distant form the character, not giving it any likeability (is that a word?! lol) See, I've always felt that Donna created Ruth as a tough but likeable character. Someone who really stood her ground and teh audience was rooting for her in the end. With Linda I was like "And so what....."? I really didn't feel like I cared what happened to her. weird huh?

Posted: 9/14/04 at 1:02amApparently, no one was told the reason why Donna was out for the past 2 weeks; and no one knew until now whether or not she would return. Officially, her final performance date was still confirmed to be on September 26th. Anyway, whatever the cause may be for her absences - perhaps it is less important now if she is back on track. I guess time will tell...

Posted: 9/14/04 at 7:12amI dont know, Donna strikes me as the stange diva type. I dont know why, but thats the first impression I got (at the Tonys, as I'm still a relativly Broadway-newbie lol)

Posted: 9/14/04 at 8:23amThat's....strange to judge the type of person Donna Murphy is after seeing only her performance as ANOTHER PERSON.

Posted: 9/14/04 at 9:00amJ-Pill - you just said a MOUTHFULL, baby....preach it...so many people in this world are quick to jump to conclusions and love to make blanket statements about people they've never met or had conversations with. It amazes me, Possums.

Posted: 9/14/04 at 9:44amDonna is certainly NOT a Diva type..she's far from it! And she did have a legitimate reason for being out.

Correct, she is not a diva.
Her note explained to her fellow cast members some of the reasons for her recent absences since they do affect the rest of the company and the overall health of the show in general.
Sorry, I misstated - not the end of her original contract, but the final two weeks of her run (to Sept. 26)...the two are different.

Posted: 9/14/04 at 12:26pmI'm not saying that she IS a diva, I'm just saying that's the impression I got, just from the way she carried herself (other than in her performance, I'm not that dumb to think that she's playing herself). I also got the impression that Idina was a diva, and that seems right on (at times, not always, just read some of the stage door experiences). Don't bite my head off, its just my impression. I've never met the Ms. Murphey, so I'm not judging, that was just my first impression.

Posted: 9/14/04 at 2:37pmI've met Donna Murphy and she was exceedingly gracious. The lady I met doesn't strike as being a diva (in the negative sense) type, but one never knows. All I know is that I thoroughly enjoyed in WT, and I found her performance in PASSION to be exquisite--very much deserving of the Tony.

I know I've mentioned this before, but.....the difference between hearing the WT CD and seeing Donna M. actually singing and acting is huge! Her body language, the facial expressions, etc. are amazing! The energy that she puts onto that stage is just incredible. I cannot imagine Brooke S. (I'm sure she must be a very nice person, so this isn't personal) bringing that much presence to the role of Ruth! What a loss for WT! People that haven't seen it don't know what they're missing! I saw it twice and wish I could get there before the end of the month!
Side note to Pitrepower: Do you know Louise P? I found her to be such a gracious person----(I met with her once after MM---)she returns e-mails and is very warm!

I totally agree with you justafan22...there is just something special about Donna's performance in WT...which is the reason I have see her in it so many times. She has amazing stage presence. I just can see Brooke even coming close (although I do wish her luck, she has big shoes to fill!). I'll have to check her out once, just to see.
And yes, I know Louise...I got to know her when she was in MM. Since she left MM I have seen her peform numerous times, in numerous locations. Her new cd comes out this fall!!!

pitrepower-----I agree---I can't wait for her album. She's such a great performer as well as a good person (an animal lover!) I'm waiting for her web-site to be updated to include concerts in the NY area.
Well, I may try to see WT one more time while DM is still performing-----I know some people that are going next week---I envy them!

Well, she's not back yet...the signs are up saying Linda Mugleston is playing Ruth Sherwood tonight.
I have a ticket for Sept. 26th, I hope she's back by then!

Posted: 9/14/04 at 7:55pmGRRRR!!! Based on this thread, i went to the box office for confirmation on Donna's appearance tonight. The lovely man just rolled his eyes and said "she calls in on a daily basis. NO idea when she'll return." The Weisler's just lost my $50.

#48re: For those who want to see Donna in WT
Posted: 9/14/04 at 8:30pmSince the original poster obviously doesn't know what the note said, does anyone actually know WHY Donna is out so much? Is she sick? Personal/family reasons? Working on other projects?
