There is no French language Phantom of the Opera. There is, however, Robert Marien's excellent solo album which has the title song and Musique de la Nuit on it. Marien's own translations, in factg.

My fav foreign cast album is the German Sunset- Helen Schneider is an awesome Norma- they even added in the wind blowing through the pipe organ during the Finale Scene.
Her As If We Never Said Goodbye is fantastic too!
And to whoever asked the question- yes there was a 4 Track CD of Debra Bryne in Sunset, however it is very hard to come by as they stopped producing it at her request- she was very unhappy with the vocals.

But, there is one awesome cast recording out there that I suggest you listen to, the Israeli version of man of la mancha - the translation use a very good mix of old and new Hebrew phrases and it's sounds very good.

I dunno, I kind of found the orchestrations thin compared to the original. They couldn't have supplemented them or multi-tracked a few? That's what happens when you start with a live recording as your basis, fix the bum spots, and then put it out, I suppose. Also, I dislike the new ending. Just throwing that out there.

Regarding Jesus Christ Superstar: in Mexico, there was a production of "Jesucristo Superestrella" on the seventies that made it one of the most well known musicals here, and a more recent one in 2001. There was also a Spanish production in the seventies with Camilo Sesto, a very popular singer at the time.
They all have cast recordings available but I haven't heard them so I couldn't tell you if they are good or not. I enjoy some of the songs of the musical but I guess I would need to see it to appreciate it better.

I have been given full access to a friend's JCS collection. He has just about every recording available. There is so much that I wanted to start with the recommended versions.

LALALand, check out the Spain/Spanish JCS recording with Camilo Sesto (there are two different recordings from the Spain JCS). It's very good.

Re: JCS-->I totally agree that the Spanish cast with Camilo Sesto is one of the best, Angela Carrasco is a gorgeous Mary. I also love the recent Dutch cast with Dieter something as Jesus and Casey something as Mary.

I like it for the fact that it is the only complete recording of the show in English, but it's actually my least favorite recording. I can't stand Freddy's voice and the thin orchestrations feel so empty compared to the other recordings.
