Even though Rob Thomas is developing the pilot, I really don't think we need a modern day LES MIS with a legal spin.

I'll only watch if they use ponpon as a character.

It can run right after the medical drama based on the Wizard of Oz.
Really
They previously did a modern dress version years ago- The Fugitive
All we need to make this complete is that if the Thenadiers are running a Los Angeles bistro and hotel.
Wait a minute...
It'll be interesting to see if this makes it past the pilot stage. I'll be curious to see how much of the story they retain. Will it be like The Fugitive, in which the only Les Miserables elements were the two main characters and their situation, or will they use more of the original story's characters? Will they keep any of the story's spirituality?
Not surprised they're trying this, we'll see where it goes...
I LOVE the LES MIZ story. The musical is my favorite musical and the novel is my favorite novel.
But... no. Please, no.
Though if it happens, I will (probably) watch it... Like a wreck you can't look away from...

I'll give it a chance at least. It would be interesting to see the story in a modern setting. I would hope they will take it past the Valjean and Javert characters because I would be interested in seeing a modern take on the other characters, how they would be like and their names. I could see a modern equalvents of Enjolras, Marius and the other students being caught up in the poltics at the university, and the Thenrdier's as con men, and Eponine being a troubled women and maybe involved in gangs.
Hardly an occasion to be purists. There have been close to a hundred film adaptations of Les Miserables, including Claude Lelouche's 1995 film with Jean Paul Belmondo which was set in Nazi occupied France. And as for a legal take on it, this is hardly a big variation given that the original novel - and almost all adaptations of it - includes multiple crimes, prosecutions, trials, incarcerations, military executions and contractual negotiations from terms of labor to turning tricks to selling one's hair to the care of children.
