I know,no one wants to speak out about how much they love movies turned into musicals but there are some movies that really could work on stage. I look at Fox' biggest hits and well, I don't think Star Wars will work. Planet of the Apes- could it ever be better than The Simpsons?
But then I see The Sound of Music and I think- you know, that just might work.
What will they be?

OK Mrs. Doubtfire is a no-brainer.
There's Something About Mary.
Cheaper by the Dozen?
Cocoon?
Fox's biggest hits

I'm sure EDWARD SCISSORHANDS will be one of them. And maybe if we're lucky, DONNIE DARKO.
Wasn't Donnie Darko already adapted into a play?

Did they already do Juno? Slumdog Millionaire might work. I'd love to see Thank You For Smoking.
Fox Searchlight
And INDEPENDENCE DAY. Patti as an alien would make me very happy.
Isn't Bend It Like Beckham getting adapted into a musical?

Mrs. Doubtfire is embroiled in rights disputes due to the divorce between Robin and his ex-wife. And I think we need a break from cross-dressing/drag musicals for a while.
We already know that WAITRESS is being turned into a musical.
Here's my guess for 10 "most likely to" Fox movie-to-musicals:
Home Alone
Mrs. Doubtfire
Moulin Rouge!
Romancing the Stone
Anastasia
My Cousin Vinny
All That Jazz
Down With Love
The Fabulous Baker Boys
The Boy Who Could Fly
I'm not going to lie, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, I could see someone writing that as a musical. I can hear Tim Curry rumors already. Edward Scissorhands is a no brainer as well
Isn't Anastasia in the works? I'd still love a large-scale production of MOULIN ROUGE. Out it in a grand theatre or a nightclub setting.
I'm sure there will be at least one Marilyn Monroe film in there as well.
Anastasia could be their very first production, couldn't it?
Cleopatra could be an even greater spectacle on stage than on film.
Musical adaption of A Midsummer Night's Dream. I can see Stephen Schwartz composing this

Hugh Jackman could play Wolverine in X-Men: The Musical.
While not a musical Edward Scissorhands has been adapted for the stage by Matthew Bourne & Caroline Thompson

Horton Hears a Who could certainly sing, and Walk the Line would seem to be a natural.
Norbert would be great for Thank You For Smoking.
Not necessarily a movie, but I can see Seth MacFarlane (the creator of Family Guy) trying to write something for the Broadway stage much like the South Park people. I wouldn't be surprised to see him star in it himself (as if he hasn't done that already), his voice has quality.
If the rights ever get freed up, here's my dream team: Seth MacFarlane, Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman crafting a MacFarlane-led "Mrs. Doubtfire."

I know its already in development but I think Fox would likely come on board as a producer on Anastasia with Stage Entertainment.
Down with Love would make a great musical especially if Shaiman and Wittman came onboard to do more songs.
No, no, no, make this all stop, please!
Doesn't anyone write anything anymore? Oh no, they do. Just no one will invest in anything unless it's got a built in fan base (read: blockbuster movie) or a star. I do hope this trend stops in the near future. Perhaps as more of these flop and produce disastrous results, theatregoers will start realizing the movie itself is probably better and can be rented for a lot cheaper than Broadway tickets.
Broadway devil, I kind of agree with everything you just said, but I don't see this trend ending within our lifetimes, or within many lifetimes after.

All the major film studios want to ape Disneys success with stage musicals, Universal has had success with Wicked, Billy Elliot while WB has has success with Elf and Charlie and Chocolate Factory is going well in London.
