How about The 7 Year Itch?

Would it be too close a title to Hedwig & The Angry Inch?
Also, yes to DOWN WITH LOVE!

I'm wondering if some of these movies, which could conceivably be produced as a Broadway show, might be problematic in the casting when the characters from the movies are so strongly associated with the actors who played them. For example, Tom Hanks in Cast Away. Unless of course, they tried to get Tom Hanks.
I don't think it's fox who owns the rights to this. so this may be off-topic. but today i was thinking how AMAZING 'My Best Friend's Wedding' could be onstage and wondering why that hasn't happened yet?!

Define "AMAZING."
"Horton Hears a Who could certainly sing"
And indeed it does, as the plot of Horton Hears a Who is already set to music, along with several other Seuss stories, in Seussical. So that would be a little pointless.

As long as you set it in a circus it will be a huge hit.
(I know, easy joke, but somebody had to say it)
I was just talking with a friend about how Down With Love could be a great stage musical. I'm totally on board with that.
there is a great 80s movie called "The Secret of My Success" which I think has great potential.

These are not Fox films but I do know musical adaptations of BREAKFAST CLUB (Universal) and PRETTY WOMAN (Touchstone) are in the exploratory stage and it's likely these will happen. I say this because the announcement of nine new Fox adaptations could have some kind of impact on both of these. Major competition. The market is getting crowded...
The Devil Wears Prada please.
Also, cast two beautiful people and I'll watch a Mr. & Mrs. Smith musical.
Again, not sure if it's Fox, but I think RUNAWAY BRIDE could be a super fun musical, as could PITCH PERFECT. A musical with an acapella component would be very different.

I think The Rocky Horror Picture Show might be good and also Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? and Gidget Goes Hawaian, A Dingo Ate My Baby and The Santa Clause Three and Last Tango in Paris would sing.
I'm pretty sure it's not a Fox movie, but I've wanted to see a Bridget Jones Diary musical for a while.
Also, I'd totally go see Down With Love the Musical! :p
Some really great possibilities, and I don't mind movies being made into musicals (it has has happened for many many years.) Look at "Mame", "Sugar", "Promises,Promises", etc.
I know the name recognition is a key factor - -but I just wish they would use new titles rather than just tagging the movie name with "X- The Musical!)
"Doesn't anyone write anything anymore? Oh no, they do. Just no one will invest in anything unless it's got a built in fan base (read: blockbuster movie) or a star."
I beg to differ with you. For the last two years the Tony Award has gone to shows, that while based on movies, neither of those movies was based on a blockbuster or had a major star in them.
"Once" made around 20 million dollars internationally (9 in the US) and "Kinky Boots" made 10 million internationally (Only 1 million in the US). Hardly enough to get a huge fan base. And both are doing wonderfully at the box office.
It's actually the big blockbuster name shows, shows based on hit movies, that seem to go down in flames. Because the films are so well known the producers just want to recreate what is on the screen. Consequently you get very poorly done shows. There isn't a reason for them to be on stage other than to make a buck.

I was thinking The Devil Wears Prada as well. The role of Miranda was made for Patti LuPone
Are we forgetting that the original Broadway musicals were based on books and plays? Broadway was never "original".
I don't know who owns the rights, but I really, really, REALLY want a TRICK musical. It's one of my favorite movies.
I really hope ALL THAT JAZZ isn't considered, since Fosse is long gone. Unless they just make it about the director-choreogrpher and his relationships, etc. WITHOUT using Fosse's choreographic style. But that won't happen.
I agree wholeheartedly with BroadwayDevil!
>>No, no, no, make this all stop, please!
Doesn't anyone write anything anymore? Oh no, they do. Just no one will invest in anything unless it's got a built in fan base (read: blockbuster movie) or a star. I do hope this trend stops in the near future. Perhaps as more of these flop and produce disastrous results, theatregoers will start realizing the movie itself is probably better and can be rented for a lot cheaper than Broadway tickets.

Hollywood does the same thing with all of the remakes these days. It's sad that those in charge would rather see a "safe" sure bet than actually creating something new.

Well, Ever After is a FOX film, and that's currently being developed as a Broadway musical.
I second The Devil Wears Prada!
Yes. Devil Wears Prada. ASAP!
It's not even maddening at this point, it's just sad. That's the state that Broadway seems to be in: nothing sells seats unless it's got some big name attached to it, whether it be a celebrity or an adaptation. I wish they'd stop it, too, but sadly I see this lasting for a long, long time.
