I have the CD & the music is good

The DVD is a bare bones production with minimal scenery. I have not seen it

It wasn't.

I had a good laugh the first time I listened to it.

It was also the last time I listened to it.

I have the recording and it's very...interesting. I liked it, and thought that it was good...but I felt as if I had heard the music before. It was nothing new or original, but it was interesting.

You know what Roxy? Wildhorn is exactly who I was thinking of. It reminded me a lot of Jekyll & Hyde. Updated On: 7/9/06 at 06:28 PM

I was thinking the same thing about Wildhorn.

Except this was a lot worse than Wildhorn.

By the time I got to the end, I had been laughing so hard I was crying. I wouldn't recommend spending money on it. It's really not worth it.

Ivan Rutherford was good, however... sort of.

This thread is funny because Wildhorn is actually scheduled to musicalize Frankenstein. From his website:

"Mary Shelley's Frankenstein

Frank is currently developing Mary Shelley's Frankenstein with Gregory Boyd and Jack Murphy. Playbill Online has reported that James Barbour is attached to the work in the role of the creature, and Kate Shindle is also connected to the project in its early stages. The show is expected to be a romantic mystery, and will largely examine the inspiration and creative process that led to Mary Shelley's famous novel. No definite production or recording plans have been announced at this time."

I have the cd also. I never listen to it. It's ok, I guess, but with so many other WAY better things to listen to, it's not likely to be getting into my rotation any time soon.

There's also a new Frankenstein musical running in NYC right now. It's playing through July 30 at Wings Theatre on Christopher Street.

Book, music and lyrics by Robert Mitchell
Directed by John Henry Davis

Cast:
Victor Frankenstein: Brian Charles Rooney (Threepenny Opera)
Creature: Timothy Warmen (Tommy, Steel Pier, Dance of the Vampires, Jesus Christ Superstar, Jekyll and Hyde)
Elizabeth: Cadden Jones (Infertility the Musical)
Justine: Kim Volpe
Clerval: Martin Giannini
Father: Paul Jackel (Secret Garden, A Christmas Carol)

Then from out of the blue, and without any guide, you know what your decision is, which is not to decide... I chose and my world was shaken, so what? The choice may have been mistaken; the choosing was not. Just keep moving on... --Sondheim

Ooh BCR as Victor Frankenstein!? Sounds interesting. I'd love to see it no matter how bad it is, cuz BCR really wowed me in Threepenny.

And I wonder if Wildhorn knows about Mel Brooks adapting Young Frankenstein? It would be really weird if both their musicals premiered in the same season.

You're reminding me of people you hear at the movies asking questions every ten seconds, "Who is that? Why is that guy walking down the street? Who's that lady coming up to him? Uh-oh, why did that car go by? Why is it so dark in this theater?" - FindingNamo on strummergirl

"If artists were machines, then I'm just a different kind of machine...I'd probably be a toaster. Actually, I'd be a toaster oven because they're more versatile. And I like making grilled cheese" -Regina Spektor

"That's, like, twelve shows! ...Or seven." -Crazy SA Fangirl

"They say that just being relaxed is the most important thing [in acting]. I take that to another level, I think kinda like yawning and...like being partially asleep onstage is also good, but whatever." - Sherie Rene Scott

I just saw this show tonight and I gotta say I REALLY enjoyed it. I read that New York Times review and if that's how the show was when the reviewer saw it, they've certanly cleaned it up since. It's a mostly sung through score which I thought worked very well. I went into it expecting something campy (c'mon, have we had a good "monster" musical yet?) but I got a very good score that was very nicely acted. I'm glad I went and I'll probably go back again before it closes in a few weeks. It's a cheap show to go to so if you can, I would suggest going to check it out.

Oh, and the CD that's on Amazon is not the same as this show.

You are more than welcome. And you know it's a good show when you leave with the tunes in your head, which is exactly what happened tonight.

Keep up the good work!
