I hate the excuse "off night." They're performers, they shouldn't have "off nights." That's what seperates mediocore performers from the best. I don't think Hugh Jackman had an "off night" in Oz. I can't understand if vocally they weren't giving their all, but they should at least be into the character and whatnot. I mean ppl are paying good money for the show.

I agree, RentBoy. A good example of a performer who NEVER had an off-night was Sutton Foster in THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE. I saw her many times -- weekday matinees, evenings, weekends -- she was ALWAYS 110% ON. She put her ALL into every ounce of her performance. She is completely committed to her craft.

And that's exactly why she's where she is. That's why she's been nominated for 3 tonys in the past 5 seasons.

And I hate when people say "well she can sing" about a musical theater performer. If she can't act, what's she doing in a musical? Get her a record deal or something if she's got such a great voice, but take her off the stage if she can't play a freakin' ensemble member convincingly.

how about a porno deal?

...what? too soon?

I personally thought she was very good in RENT--but I also though Karmine Alers was GOD when I saw it. It was my first time--so I didn't know anything about the show. I understand she isn't exactly the sweetest person at the stagedoor either. If a performer isn't good on stage, atleast be nice at the stagedoor so that your audience won't COMPLETELY hate you! Woo.

Its funny you say that Sutton Foster was ON every night when I am pretty sure that she had a reputation for missing a lot of performances. Anyways I agree about Frenchie... so long.

I gotta tell 'ya ..performing professionally and in long contracts is really hard. I have been an actor my whole life and I have been very lucky to have gotten the jobs that I have gotten.

Personally, I knew it was time to leave the business professionally when I would be onstage thinking about my laundry and not giving a crap about the show anymore. But doing the same show for 3 years, 8 shows a week gets old. We all get bored and jaded. It happens to the best of us.

Most of my friends that are still on Broadway, I hate to say it, are bored. It gets old, guys. The novelty fades away and it's just another show.

It is a job just like anything else. You have good days and bad days, sometimes you have the flu, sometimes your time of the month, maybe your Dad died, etc.

In an office setting, it's ok to be sick or sad or whatever but it's not ok to be any of those things onstage ...so you do the best you can.

Rentboy says: "I hate the excuse "off night." They're performers, they shouldn't have "off nights." That's what seperates mediocore performers from the best."

Rentboy: I know that we should never have an "off night" because the audience does pay a ****load of money (which I think is ridiculous) and they do deserve it but we are only human. Are you a performer? Have you ever done a long contract schedule? If you have, then you should understand.

When I worked in Las Vegas, we did 12 shows a week and it was exhausting and very hard. While I always kept a smile on my face; sometimes my body hurt.

It's NOT acceptable, however, to ever phone it in.

You saw her in Rent. I saw her in Dreamgirls. Two different beast. Dreamgirls really showed her true colors as a performer.

When/where was Frenchie in Dreamgirls?

There was a mini West Coast tour a few years back. I saw her in Seattle. They did San Fran I believe, and somewhere else. There used to be clips on the site that cannot be named. Not sure if they're still there.

Hehe I am friends with Sutton's understudy for millie, and yes she was out a lot.

Really, Emo? I am friends with Megan as well and the only time her and Emily stepped in for Sutton was when she had a scheduled vacation. There may have been one or two other times but I would hardly say she was out a lot.

WORK!!!!! I completely agree Rentboy. I usually never praise too many posts on here but that comment was commendable.

Parks: Wait, do you mean that Karmine Alers is not GOD?

lol, I've never heard her called that, but I have heard her called the Goddess of Rent. GOD or no she is pretty darn amazing!

And just for the record, I have also heard that Frenchie is not so nice to fans, but the one time I met her she was very nice. *shrugs*

Maybe some of that green is gonna come off! -Deodorant Elphie. No body likes a stinky witch! -I think we've covered the hair, we'll get to that. -Clean underclothes. That's all I'm gonna say. -Look at your posture. That's no way to be popular! -Bed made, room straightened. We've done that. -Colors blended. Oookay. -But the most important thing to have, to make yourself popular, is to keep your beautiful smile." ~Kristin Chenoweth in her last performance of the song "Popular"

Weez, I did not misunderstand. I just think that in order for a performer to be giving 110% that means that they should never miss a show, unless there are scheduled absences. I saw Sutton in Millie and she was amazing. But, from what I have heard, a lot of people missed her on days she was supposed to be there.
